he has started on the bench most of the year

starts each quarter on the bench and then finishes each quarter on the ground- fresh and solid at the end of quarters.

Mini and lenny soften them up and Lenny and bally finish them off- if one won't get you the other will.

Of course its a wake up call because they all start where they are named. I find Lenny has had a disappointing season though. Hasnt kicked many goals and has been named FP all year. Must be close to being dropped.

OMG...

Do you actually see the games?

It is not a question of the line up, but Ball often starts on the bench.

Ball averages 21 disposals and 6 tackles a match and spends 22% of the time on the bench.

Yep, I know who needs a wake up and its not Luke Ball

But if Ball is named on the bench he must stay there until someone is substituted off first. Is Ball 19th man?

Come on St Fid, get up with the modern game will you before you start having a go at others!!

lol

the official team will be given to the opposition just before the game (I think about an hour before the game)

It's then when the side is named with the players on the bench.

But in any case in matches this year Luke Ball often starts on the bench at the start of each match, and to me this thread is no real surprise...

There is nothing new and Luke Ball does not need to have a wake up call

Is there anything in Bally only getting 48% (by memory in the sun) game time for the geelong game?

Yeah wake up Luke Ball! Forget about getting 50 metres clear in the last quarter of a classic when the scores are tied and then delivering to the hot spot with a 55 metre kick. You're gone, finished! Not bloody likely!

I would read it as a pat on the back to Mini more than anything else.

Yes, I think that is part of it.

I am well aware that players don't start in named positions. But my sense is that the named side is some reflection of where the match committee sees players, on form, against their peers. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Luke has been named on the bench all year.

Seriously.....does anyone pay attention to how the team is named let alone those named on bench? It means zero

he may not have been named on the bench in the team published But ( and I sit near the bench at Etihad) in most/ if not all recent games he has started there.- but the team sheet given to the opposition and officials pre game may very well have him there.

and even if he does start on the ground first quarter- every other one he starts on bench.

Lenny has been getting plenty of ball for a forward pocket hasn't he.
Just imagine if they named him in the centre - he would have to get at least 100 possessions a game.

Rubbish OP and actually that (+ Saintbrats great reply) is all I've read.

Bally had 48% TOG vs the Cats FWIW.

Still clocked up 15 odd possies, some really important tackles and the kick that won us the game.

Yeah, drop him.

I think RL was not pleased as to how much more Geelong mids and onballers got their hands on the ball on Sunday, compared to our mids and onballers, and although we won with a top team effort, that aspect is a bit of a worry as we were a bit flat footed in the contests. Ball may just need to get more of the ball.

Ball isn't on the bench yet. He could be an emergency.

Don't think Ball needs a wake up call, being playing good footy.
Too many expect him to be like Hodge & Judd. He does not have their
silky smooth skills, but he does have good old fashion grunt.

If he is on the bench or starting 18 does not really matter, will get plenty of game time.

also in the last quarter he very nearly kicked a good goal wandering into space in the forward line, but riewoldt couldn't quite get it across to him. seemed to still have a fair bit of running in his legs at that point.

named on the bench means approximately nothing, sorry.

After 48% TOG last week, I'll wait until final selection before saying it means nothing.

I really wish the club would come out and say what's going on with him and why he's playing so little. If they have a game plan with him it would be nice to hear it. It's not like they'd be giving away national secrets. I don't think it would be at all unreasonable to tell the fans and members what his situation is. They seem to be very paranoid about things like that.
