hope you don't mind me jumping in here however i posted this question previously but i do not think i got any responses -

What combination of letters were used on the scoreboard and in the record to denote 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 scores in the old VFL??

Should be 6 combinations

Also the combinations mostly remained the same for specific grounds - can anyone match the letters to the grounds??

Arden Street -
VFL Park -
Junction Oval -
Victoria Park -
Windy Hill -
MCG -
Western Oval -
Kardinia Park -
Moorabbin -
Princes Park -
Lakeside Oval -

sorry if i have jumped in :(

I thought each "Team" had an "Alpha" assigned to them but remember
that certain grounds usually had the same letters.

A & B was the VFL Park game.
C & D was the Princes Park game.
R & S was the Kardinia Park game.

Am I on the right track?

HarveysDeciple

Post: # 78224Post HarveysDeciple »

That makes sense now that I know it was for grounds. I used to think it was based on teams.

Yep correct so far -

A&B was always VFL / Waverley Park - whatever game was being played there
C&D - was always Princes Park - If Carlton were not playing there Hawthorn were
R&S - was Kardinia Park however Geelong of course did not play there every week so it could be assigned to other grounds

Actually here is how i think it went -

Arden Street - K&N
VFL Park - A&B
Junction Oval - ????
Victoria Park - E&F
Windy Hill - K&N
MCG - G&H - Richmond or Melbourne always
Western Oval - R&S
Kardinia Park - R&S
Moorabbin - E&F
Princes Park - C&D - Carlton or Hawthorn always
Lakeside Oval - R&S

Seems like years ago - I am more than likely wrong on some however that was generally the way i thpought it was structured.

Anyone else think it was different???

Seeing there is no outstanding Question:

What was on the saints Run Through Banner in the 1997 Grand Final? - and extra marks for the Background colour!

(I have a picture on my desk I am looking at now!)

Apart from it being white, I can't really remember what it had on it.
