if brisbane are going to have a home game rd 1 it will be against an interstate team (chances are its wce) but i doubt they will seeing as they have a home game rd 2.
melbourne v north melbourne is fine by me, but fat chance they will get 30,000
i doubt they would have wce v rich round 1 at subi seeing as it was rd 22 this year at subi.
dools,

1. AFL won't schedule thursday the same as last season but they need fireworks for the season opener. richmond will get canned and a collingwood will step-up to ensure that it is as close to a sellout as possible.

2. everyone is saying that there is a leak that dictates there will not be a GF replay. but why? why when the GF replay has been a big marketing exercise in recent years. even though it will be at a neutral venue, games are taxed as home games for the greater good which means that the MCG will be booked solid on two consecutive nights. the friday game will not be interstate, it will be at the G.

3. melbourne may again play north round one but it will be the hidden timeslot, sunday twilight and at docklands instead of the MCG.

4. the main reason why i cant see us playing sydney at home is that the AFL will be very keen to expand things by giving brisbane and sydney a start because of GC17 and WS18. this is the fundamental reason why i reckon we'll not be playing sydney first next year -- because the AFL want NSW and QLD to feel good.

* Round 1 v Sydney in Sydney
* 3 interstate trips in first 5-6 weeks
* One trip to Perth for year
* 4 games at MCG
* After first 6 weeks we only leave MCG / Ethiad twice

How many interstate trips in total?

Are all our home games at Etihad?

Sounds pretty much like last year except for the extra games at the G.

Expect trips to Sydney and probably both Adelaide sides in the first 5 rounds.

Brisbane and Perth trips later in the year.

We had Seven interstate trips last year with one being a home game against Melbourne at the Gold Coast.

Was that a 'one off deal' ???

Also I would like to see 1 less intestate away game, and by your couple of posts, I hope you are right.

5 instead of 6 interstate games for next your would be great...

I am pretty sure the Bulldogs only played 5 matches interstate last year and one of them was a home game in Darwin...

4 interstate away matches and we had 6 am I right in this???

I would say that if we get the Swans again for Round 1, it would be in Sydney, as we've hosted them the last two years.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

BFUSA's post suggests we travel interstate 5 times. I think our contract with ES has it that we play all of our home games there, meaning that the 4 MCG games will be away games. My guess on the away games at the G would be; Hawthorn, Richmond, Collingwood & Melbourne !!

AWESOME!!!

You would think that we would be one of the lucky teams to get one of those games
onluy if we wish to go to Aurora or the Subiaco
[qute]the League will also ensure Collingwood and Essendon’s Anzac Day blockbuster – which next season falls on a Sunday – will be given a standalone slot.

Hawthorn and Fremantle are also likely to host matches on Anzac Day.

“With it being a Sunday we’ve been able to accommodate cleaning out that whole day by just having the Essendon-Collingwood game one-out in the 2.30pm slot, and then having a twilight fixture down in Tasmania when that game finishes,â€

There's no Gold Coast (Carrara) games next season due to the re-development.

5 interstate trips is about the best we can hope for.

The ultimate is only 4 interstate, but that is reserved always for EddieFilth.

Cats, Saints to meet just once
Scott Gullan | October 19, 2009 11:30pm

GRAND finalists Geelong and St Kilda will play only once next season - and fans will have to wait until Round 13. In a move that has shocked both clubs and football purists, the AFL has decided to break with its recent trend of scheduling the Grand Final rematch in Round 1 and again mid-season.

And in another surprise, the Western Bulldogs will play Geelong and St Kilda only once.

It means the top three teams of last season clash in only three of a possible six games in 2010, a dramatic diversion from the AFL's long-standing mantra of maximising attendances with blockbuster games.

The much-anticipated Geelong-St Kilda game will be played on a Friday night at the MCG on the second week of the split round. The Herald Sun understands the Dogs meet the Saints early in the season, but are not scheduled to play the Cats until Round 20 at Etihad Stadium.

Clubs on Friday received draft copies of the fixture, to be released on October 30.

Among other key features is Collingwood's season-opening away game against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Etihad Stadium, with Dogs skipper Brad Johnson due to play his 350th game.

Essendon will play Geelong in a Round 1 MCG blockbuster on a Friday night.

And Geelong plays the Magpies twice for the first time since 2003, assuring both clubs of a financial windfall.

Other fixture features include:

FOR the first time the AFL will have a flexible fixture for Round 22, meaning the times and dates of games will not be set in stone.

MELBOURNE will keep its Queen's Birthday home game against Collingwood and receive a home Friday night game at the MCG.

PORT ADELAIDE'S only foray into prime-time Friday nights will be against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium.

ADELAIDE is one of four clubs that will head to Aurora Stadium in Launceston to take on Hawthorn. The Crows will also play two home games on Friday night at AAMI Stadium.

NEITHER Adelaide nor Port Adelaide will have to travel to Sydney.

THE Bulldogs play Sydney twice, once in Canberra and once at the SCG.

More than 153,000 people watched the two epic encounters between Geelong and St Kilda this year, including 99,251 for the Grand Final.

The Round 14 blockbuster - which lured 54,444 fans to Etihad Stadium - was regarded as one of the best games in recent history, as the Saints won by a goal in the dying seconds.

Since 2007, the AFL has scheduled the previous year's Grand Finalists in Round 1.

The decision to go with a flexible fixture in Round 22 comes after this year's controversy involving Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs playing a Sunday twilight game that caused major complications for the finals draw.

The AFL confirmed yesterday that two games will be played in Darwin each season for the next five years.

hmmm so we play the Cats once only - sounds like it will be THEIR home game and revenue?

Perhaps the AFL requested that we play a home game at the MCG also against the Cats, but we refused, wanting all 11 home games at Etihad?

Does that sound plausable?

no

i think you will find we have played the cats the past 2 - 3 times (not inc GF) at etihad in our home game.
its probably their turn for a home game.

When we played at the Junction Oval and South Melbourne played at the Lakeside Oval there was a 'traditional rivalry' between us.

Not to mention the Plugger bag of 11 at the SCG in 94, which helped turn a seven goal deficit at the final change into a one point victory. Plugger kicked the winning goal after the siren and signaled profanities at the crowd. Then Plugger crossed over to the Swans and Barry Hall later followed suit. Also, in 2004 they were the first team to defeat us, ending our 10 game winning streak, to which we avenged by eliminated them in a semi final later that year, despite them being highly fancied by the punters. In 2005 we thrashed them in a very uninspiring encounter which branded them as "the ugly ducklings" and AD went public to say Sydney's style of play would never win them the flag, yet they defeated us in the prelim later that year in a seven goal to zip last quarter, a match where we were hot favourites. Even this year, after 17 great victories, they were the first team to push us to within less than a kick at the final siren.

So, we do have a history.
