Find one of Trevor Barker, he went higher and more often.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Is it wrong to be excited about the recruitment of a 21 year old kid that has never played a game of Aussie Rules let alone one at AFL level??
It probably is, but I can't deny the fact that I am a little excited by this announcement. I hope he lives up to half the hype because he will be a special unit if he does.

Cam Mooney is the same height and weight.
Nick Riewoldt is the same height, but 3 kgs lighter.
Matthew Richardson is the same height but 5 kgs heavier.
Now, if we're to believe Walsh's apparent agility, imagine those players with Stephen Hill's ability at ground level...

The most over rated player of recent times Kouta.
I understand he was a Carlton player and I hate them as much as the next person (tbh I think more) but at his peak he was unplayable.
A footballer of his height with his agility - at the time I had never seen athleticism, both aerially and at ground level, like that on a football field before. There were players who could fly higher, and there were players who were better at ground level, but the combination of both for a player of his height was foreign to me. Of all the players around today, maybe only Goodes could be compared to him.
He was in many ways before his time.
Most remember him post injuries where he wasn't half the player. No doubt his career fizzled out but late 90s-early 00s he was a very good footballer.

Compared to this years draft camp results Tommy would of finished =3rd for the 20m sprint out of ALL the potential draftees.
He was also just .07 of a second outside making the top 10 for agility.
When you take into consideration his weight and height, he is worthy of a top 5 pick this year based on just his physical attributes.
If he really works on his skills over the off season, which surely he'll do, i can't see why he can't be in the best 22 by round 1 and win the rising star

Amazing.
I trust Tadhg's given him a few pointers on the technical aspects of the game.
Roo should do us all a favour and just hand over the captaincy already.

As he is 21 already isnt he ineligible for the Rising Star?

Even if he is still eligible he isn't anymore,he's that good the AFL have made a 'no Tommy in awards' rule due to his upcoming domination of our game

Rules will be changed and they'll rename it "The Tommy Walsh Award"

He is ineligible. I still haven't figured out why there's an age restriction on the Rising Star. Surely a rising star is a rising star regardless of age. It's not like the league has been inundated with 27-year old first-year players tearing it up. I'm not sure it would be a problem if there were.
There is a best first year player award handed out by the AFLPA that Tommy can win.

[quote]Moran, son of Kerry legend Ogie and Walsh’s club mate with Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s, will undergo a three-week trial at St Kilda and despite falling out of the Kerry picture this year, Nixon says he has already impressed coaches in Australia. “Unfortunately, he hasn’t played that much football this year,â€
Another fan whimsically weighed up the positives and negatives.
"You are 21 and single. You have a choice of living and working (maybe if you are lucky) in rain-sodden Ireland...Alternatively you could play professional football in sun-drenched Australia, I know where I would be heading."
Already pointed out. Had he of gone to draft camp this year, he would of finished =3rd for the 20m sprint. Take into account his height and weight, and that's amazing.

going on the clips and highlights he looks like a natural full forward to me. very quick over a short distance, strong and uses his body well.
how quickly he learns to mark, handle and kick a sherrin is the issue.
I'm not expecting miracles of young Tommy in 2010.
Let's look at our last mature age rookie to make it - Clint Jones, who did come from a footy background. He took a season of adjustment before starting to come into his own.
Give Tommy at least half, if not most, of the season to adjust to AFL - he might need to play several VFL games to get into the game and be AFL-ready - or should I say ready to play for a top side.
If he was playing for Melbourne, he'd be a walk up start for round 1 most likely, but I suspect it may be different for us.
The guy is only 21. If he is not a Saints superstar until 2011 I can live with that
I suppose the major thing that Tommy has going for him (outside of his physical attributes) is that he plays a game that is very similar to ours. The biggest issue with blokes that are either late starters due to playing other sports (League- Sam Gilbert, Basketball-Dean Brogan, etc) is the ability to read the play (knowing where to move in anticipation of the ball getting there).
Gaelic Footy is very similar in that regard, they move quickly & continually around a large ground & the ball pings from one end to the other very quickly.
It is a given that handling a Sherrin is a challenge to any new comer to our game. However, most Irish players have picked up the skill side of things quite quickly but it is the physicality and tactics that they took a while to get a grasp of.
Despite the naysayers, it's exciting to get a new Sainter on board! Go Tommy!
