In Round 4 1993 the Saints, minus their star full forward Tony Lockett, ventured to the fortress of Victoria Park to face the undefeated Collingwood. The Pies were highly fancied for the flag. The last time the two teams met was in the first week of the previous year's finals, in which St Kilda had prevailed.
The Saints scored a famous 22-pt victory, their first at Victoria Park in many years. During the game Nicky Winmar and Gilbert MacAdam were subjected to a barrage of racist taunts, prompting Winmar to raise his guernsey and point proudly to his skin -- an immortal image.
In the aftermath there was a lot of negative publicity, poorly deflected by Collingwood president Alan McAllister, and the Pies never really recovered ... not for years.
(Sadly for the Saints, Winmar walked out of the club days later owing to a pay dispute. The Saints, too, took a long time to recover, sacking coach Ken Sheldon at the end of the season.)

That's quite a cool bit of history. Good spot.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
