Because %%% is going to be critical.... Some people need to get over the spectacle of winning by 100 pts, in the grand scheme of things it DOES NOT matter as long as we win...
seriously, its an a skill holding onto the ball to ice the clock...
I felt embarrased during that last five minutes. Embarassed that fans of my own club could be so selfish and stupid to make so much noise AGAINST the team when we were 90+ points in front..and embarrased for the players who must have been thinking "WTF do we have to do to keep the fans happy, is being 15 goals in front not sufficient?"
The sooner a certain percentage of our supporter base pulls their heads out of their collective arses and realise that its not 1982 anymore, the happier the rest of us will be.
Disgraceful, embarrassing and took a little of the gloss off the day for me
I had never heard the booing until we went to Etihad and adopted the approach of slowing the game down. Someitme its frustrating to see them not go on with it and even turnt the ball over, but to boo them is a disgrace
It's good practice for the team. If they can deal with their own fans booing them, then they can deal with the sound of 50,000 toothless ferals booing them as they chip the ball around to protect the lead in the dying minutes of a final.
St.Dianne wrote:I agree - was getting very embarassed by all the booing. What have they got to boo about? We were giving Port a belting!! Some people are never happy.
Embarassing is right. Will these people be booing if we need to do this to ice a final?
A skill well worth practicing.
STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.
''I still get really excited, and I've got the '66 thing up on the wall in a frame … You look at it and think: one day, we want to achieve that.''- Arryn Siposs
Pretty poor when you consider the players were obviously following instructions to the letter. I'm proud of
them for doing it, against some pretty vocal cr*p coming over the fence.
Seriously, why risk a hammy in junk time, when there are bigger things in our future ?
same moron group i was sitting next to who all game kept critising the handball and switching play. JUst kick it long the call. Either these people do not understand footbal or have very narrow vision and cannot see the 4 on 1 favouring Port down the line.
Had to lauggh through when we kicked it long and port marked it " Are you happy now" was my retort.

We just wanted to ice the clock and prevent injuries.
I feel sorry for those that boo a team that are 15 goals up late in the final term.
Bunch of very sad sacks
Not just icing the clock and preventing injuries. It is a part of the game plan and we are not the only ones that do it. They had no clear options to kick it to so they move it around until the find a suitable option. No point bombing it long to a large pack of players and turning it over.
I do agree that it is really poor form from supporters and peeves me off whenever I hear it. Mind you, people in the area I sit in no better than to EVER boo the team when I am there.....

I wasn't really annoyed at the backman, they were only doing it because all the forwards and mid-fielders had shut up shop and weren't providing options to kick to.
Plus they probably had trouble seeing into the lockett end anyway.

My daughter had to calm me down because I was pretty angry at you booing.
By the way slagging players and the umpires(they were ok today) support YOUR TEAM!
End of rant!!!
Go saints!!!
Everyone was very much aware that we had a chance to log our first 100 point pin against Port.
Whilst it is important to be able to play "tempo" football, I was disappointed that with only 7 more points required we abandoned our attempt to win by 100.
Though I hasten to add I didn't boo.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

See I dont think there was ever an "attempt to win by 100", We played how we played, and at a time predetermined, we started to slow the tempo. The problem was that at that time we were 93 points in front and the less intelligent members of the crowd had bloodlust in their eyes for this 100 point win
Ironic thing was, if that last shot on the siren had been on target, we'd have won by 100. tempo footy, whinging and all
