Heard on SEN this morning

Post: # 992553Post mohannair »

One Saint Supporter rang SEN this morning @ 5:45 am & had this interesting stat.

a) Last time when we won the flag (1966) there was a federal election & Labour won.
b) Last time Victoria had floods were in 1966
c) Saints have played 6 times in a G.F. & the only time we won was an even year, we have lost all the odd year G.F.
d) Before we won in 1966 we lost the Grand Final in 1965

Now that’s a very interesting stat & to add to it I have seen that most of the Teams who played their P.F. on a Saturday get’s up.

Good work Sainter I missed his name.

I don't go in for omens.

Premierships are won by the best team on the day. Hopefully us.

Also the last time the top 4 were the same 4 teams twice in a row were 1965 and 1966... Saints topped the ladder in 65 and lost the GF, and had a quiter H&A season in 66 and won..

As a former TV news cameraman, we've had many floods since 1966...

If, in 2010, we had a guy called Ditterich who was suspended for the GF, I'd start to think about this

No Labor win in 1966 either.

Omens are meaningless. Luck on the day is everything - as we saw last year.

Labor did not win the election in '66. They did not gain power until 1972. Be careful with omens, C'wood do it every grand final & it doesn't work. The disgraceful comments directed at Milne by Malthouse during the first encounter & the smear campaign in the media orchestrated against us , implying the cases against Milne & Montagna were being re-investigated & the entire police force covered up for them should be incentive enough to kick their B&W butts! Not to mention the gut-wrenching experience from last year.

Any chance that we'll change to decimal currency this year?

England would have won the world cup if not for a poor refereeing decision.

Or so I'm told.

Australian Jack Brabham was Formula One world champion in 1966.

Australian Mark Webber leads the 2010 Formula One world championship.

Here are some other omens I found on another site ...

In 1900 Melbourne won the flag and 100 years later in the year 2000 they lost the Grandfinal.

In 1901 Essendon won the flag and 100 years later in 2001 Essendon lost the Grandfinal

Collingwood went back to back and won the flag in 1902 and 1903 and 100 years onwards the Magpies lost back to back Granfinals

in 1904 the Lions won the flag and 100 years later as the Brisbane Lions in 2004 they lost the flag.

Since then no team who has made a Grandfinal played in the corresponding Grandfinal 100 years ago, until this year 2010.. Collingwood won the flag in 1910.....

Since 1966 2nd semi-final Collingwood have not defeated the Saints in a final.
They lost in '66 Granny, '92 Elim, '08 Qual & '09 Qual

1966 was the last time we had a hung parliament/minority government, I believe.

What about this one: It's 44 years since our win in 1966.

I want the little tiprat to slot through a goal to put us seven points in front with 15 seconds to go.

In retrospect - the guy who wears No. 10 (both wear No. 10) has been given a suspension long enough that has possibly not allowed him to play in a GF :)

That really is the best omen Pwoit!!!!
I remember bawling my eyes out for days over Carl's suspension. I just love the memories of his playing days. I notice that he and his wife are one of the first to post a notice in the Herals Sun following the passing of Jack Barker.

This.

Throw all omens and history and everything out the window.

It all comes down to this Saturday.

People really shouldn't ring talkback when they've just come home from the pub.

BelfastSaint's 100 year comparisons are pretty cool though...but by "Since then no team who has made a Grandfinal played in the corresponding Grandfinal 100 years ago, until this year 2010.. Collingwood won the flag in 1910.....", I assume you mean they won the PF (aka the 'real' GF)?

No we didn't
Liberal/Country Party 82 seats, Labor 41 seats.

That's what I call a majority!

A little known fact: Harold Holt was a Saints supporter. Members of his familly still are today.

Go Harold. Go the mighty Saints!
