Ross Lyon on draft results

Post: # 494248Post lovin_dal_santo »

"Well we had a lot of priotites, our recruiting staff had a plan, we got the players we wanted. Jack Steven the midfielder, Mcevoy the ruckman, both 17 years old, great competitos. Eljay some injuries, which sent him under the radar, we wanted some pace, he is skilled and quick."

On McEvoy: he is a ruckman who can play forward, it is a significant component to winning games, we think with ball etc being at their peak in 2-3 years, we'll have a young ruckman to compliment them.

On Fraser: spoken to him over the past two weeks, went through all positives and the areas it could go wrong. Once your champions are gone they are lost forever, his bodies in really good shape and he has a strong desire to play.

McEvoy: 200cm plus, either out shearing sheep or fighting bushfires, country boy.. big move for him, mother is a marathon runner, big tank, leg speed and agility questionable but will get to ball fist, reads games well, great leader, adds to culture at St.Kilda.

leg speed and agility was mentioned as weakness by panelist but has great
leadership qualities

he also mentioned speaking to fraser four nights in a row and given that Fraser rang M Drain at 2am
 you can just imagine what time he was speaking to Ross each night.

the panelist stressed how much of a country boy McEvoy was and I wondered if Kosi and Joey have a spare room. another Murray bushranger -

Glad you're on board Ben

Rapt to have Ben on board and also happy he is from country Victoria.
We certainly need a big guy with a big presence iat Saint Kilda.

Ben in many respects is Lyon's first big pick in regards to what Lyon is trying to get our players to produce especially through the midfield.
Fingers crossed that Ben Mc emerges into the big compliment to our team that edges us towards september success.

Good luck Ben.

G O S A I N T S !

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

emma quale on young ben

"mcevoy is another with captaincy potential and the best contested mark in this draft ....at no 11 she conceded she might have ranked him a little low but she thought it interesting to see where he would get picked.......she thought anywhere from 6 to 15.......she also reckoned that clubs were asking whether he was a ruckman or a key forward, although she believes he will play mostly in the ruck...as does our coach........she ended up saying that mcevoy will relish being in a professional environment and will not die wondering.......
