Say goodbye to the bots, the site has undergone a change

Post: # 511500Post battye »

There will be a lot of you pleased to know I have implemented a couple of changes to the website. :)

The most important change, I have added an anti-spam procedure to registration. If you have a look at the registration page, you will see I have included a new field asking what jumper number Robert Harvey wears. Just in case a genuine user doesn't know the answer, I have even included the answer there - nonetheless, it should deter automated spammers, and I do have other options at my disposal if this doesn't work out. In my experience, this is a very effective method of anti-spam, and to be truthful I would be surprised if it doesn't have a high success rate.

Search is available again.

I have updated the board software slightly so it is using the latest version. In the future, we may even upgrade again to a newer release, stay tuned for more details on that :)

The moderators and administrators have been discussing this for some time, and effective immediately is a new set of rules. We all feel the new rules are fair and easy-to-understand. You can view the new rules page at http://www.saintsational.com/forum/rules.php and the topic explaining this at http://www.saintsational.com/forum/view ... hp?t=39716

There will be some more changes in the coming weeks, but these were the most important hence why they were done first.

If you want to see any technical changes to the site, please let me know by posting this thread, and if it is viable I am more than happy to implement your ideas.

Thanks

That was my way of testing that the Robert Harvey question worked :P

My walking floppy is still alive and kicking, as you can see at http://forums.cricketmx.com/viewtopic.p ... 945#p85945

I had to leave that last ball 6 as my avatar here though, at my forum most of the users are Americans and wouldn't understand the significance of such a feat :D

There's been 2 registrations, both of which are legit.

Great work on the search feature.
Would it be possible to implement an "ignore" feature as well - that would allow users to effectively 'block' other posters?

In the future, yes this will be available.

Any chance of some new 'styles'. I think the default saintsational1 definitely could do with an overhaul. My favourites are bolded.

Here are some examples.

In going with "sydney mark 2" theme - http://www.freestylexl.com/demo/index.p ... rpheus_red
Downloads here -

The grey version of the same theme -

Saints coloured one -

full width version of above style.

Another "red/grey/white" one -

No, there won't be any new styles for the time being, but thanks for the suggestion! :)

No worries, Saintsational3 is readable enough for me, and doesn't look too bad. Wouldn't mind an 'extended' (widened) version of it though.

Do the topics only go back to the last posts on 12 August 2007?

Will older ones be reinstated?

The older posts are gone, this was because of settings that were applied long before I had access to the site though.

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do to get the old posts back. Having said that, for the time being no more old posts will be deleted.

Good stuff and well done.

Any site that allowed links to child porn and photos of porn, had to make some changes

well done

Yep I know that the mods do there best and can't be expected to be on here 24/7...

It was never about that, it was about a "process" that makes the mods life easier and NOT delete posts in the first place.

Proactive and NOT reactive...

pretty simple really...

Again, well done!

:D
