Team vs Collingwood

Post: # 560508Post Richter »

Ok it may be a bit early for this, but I've been wallowing a bit in pessimism so thought I might try to be more forward looking to pull myself back into positive mode and have a crack at a team selection against Collingwood.

B: Matt Maguire, Max Hudghton, Jason Gram
HB: Steven Baker, Sam Fisher, Geary
C: Sean Dempster, Luke Ball, Shane Birss
HF: Nick Dal Santo, Brendon Goddard, Robert Harvey
F: Fraser Gehrig, Justin Koschitzke, Stephen Milne

Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna

I/C: Charlie Gardiner, Raphael Clarke , Adam Schneider, David Armitage

Emg:, Jarryd Allen, King, Gwilt/Blake

In: Geary, Hudghton
Out: Riewoldt, X Clarke (injuries)

==============================

Baker on Didak; Geary on Davis; Fisher on Medhurst; Hudghton to Cloke; Goose on Rocca.
In the midfield, Dempster on Pendlebury.

BJ named as CHF but also to rotate through CHB. Raph to be part of midfield/CHF rotations.

Gwilt/Blake to come in if Max/Goose don't make it.

Kosi to 2nd ruck - should match up ok vs Fraser who is not much chop at the ball-ups and at least match him around the ground.

Given the injury to Roo G escapes the axe - if he has another poor game then consider not taking him interstate to Brisbane.

so kingys not going to get up in time for the pies?
damn.

not bad selections there.
id play raph again.....(awaits bombardment)

birss needs to step up along with grammy and goose.
fraiser needs to pull something outta his butt and dominate wakelin

relying on a bloke to kick more than half a dozen who stands around 5 foot is not what id call fun

why wouldn't goose play?

EDIT: nm, just read that he has apparently severly injured his 'good foot'. makes me wonder why he came back in fourth quarter if he was at risk of further injuring his foot.

I'm suggesting that against Collingwood we don't need two specialist rucks as Kosi is good enough vs Fraser - can't remember who pies 2nd ruck is. So I'd have King OR MG as 1st ruck. That then gives us more flexibility to play an extra running player in Geary to try to.....

a/ give us some more options to defend the pies small forward triumvirate of Davis/Didak/Medhurst

b/ give us more options to rotate BJ and Raph Clarke through CHF in the absence of Roo.

Fraser and Wood.

So I would play both King and Gardi if avaikalble.

Kosi can then play as a permanent forward.

I think Allen will play based on Lyons comments on AW

I'd say so. Will probably depend on how a few guys go next week for Scorps. There are at least 3 changes through injry so I doubt anyone will be dropped.

Ross Lyon seems to prefer having two specialist ruckman so if King is fit he will play with M Gardiner, which leaves Kosi to play forward.
That would still leave Kosi, C Gardiner & Gehrig forward. Would like to see Allen get a go but it won't happen with the other three talls still there.

The Pies do not playa huge forward line and have lots of smaller nimble types.

For this reason I would add Geary.

Up forward given a good game for Casey this weekend I would give Allen another chance to strut his stuff in preference to Gtrain.

Kosi to play FF...with Allen and Charlie as roaming tagets across the HFF line.

In King, Max, Geary, Allen
Out Roo, X and omitted GTrain and one of Raph or Goose .

We have a few injuries though...and a fortnight is a long way off.

Goose is out for a number of weeks and even with the break Max would be doubtful. You could be right about G. I think the way RL was talking G may give it away this week.

Yes..that was the goss I heard on SEN this morning....

However,,,,,,at this stage you would not want him retired permanently as Sept is along way off...and who knows what injuries we may have to whom then.

But at this stage...I think we should have look at Allen in the firsts.

Surely King would be ahead of McEvoy.

Generally you'd think a hammy strain to an old, injury-prone ruckman playing in a team with very conservative medical staff would mean 3 weeks.

It will be 4 weeks by then so he should be right you would think.

I know people keep pumping up McEvoy... BUT from the ruck contests I have seen him in so far....he is not yet good enough to beat Fraser or Wood.

King is a better ruckman than either Pie ruckman and is good around the ground too....and with next week beinga bye you would think that it should be right as it was nota full blown hammy tear.

If Max is ok, clearly he'd be in ahead of Gwilt..If King is not up and about, BigMac to make his debut...

Would not want to see Fiora or Blake come back in... IMO that would be a backward step, and time into the legs of Geary, Allen, McEvoy etc would be far more beneficial..

Spot on. What's been wrong with Gwilt? Is he a one game game wonder?

Using your team as a base, i've made my changes. I agree with Gwilt being in the team, Fiora needs to show some VFL form to warrant selection, and I really do hope he isn't picked.

B: James Gwilt, Max Hudghton, Jason Gram
HB: Brendon Goddard, Sam Fisher, Jarryn Geary
C: Sean Dempster, Luke Ball, Shane Birss
HF: Nick Dal Santo, Jarryd Allen, Robert Harvey
F: Raphael Clarke, Justin Koschitzke, Stephen Milne

Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna

I/C: Charlie Gardiner, Andrew McQualter, Adam Schneider, David Armitage

In: Geary, Hudghton, Gwilt, McQualter
Out: Riewoldt, X Clarke, Baker, Maguire

HOWEVER - All eyes will be on the Casey Scorpions game this week against the Bullants.
