Players Nicknames

Post: # 579649Post saintboy »

Does anyone know all of the players nicknames because i don't. I know a few but i make my own up for most of them, so for anyone who is interested here they are in numerical order.

1- Gramma
2- Kingy
3- X to the C or just plain old X
6- Other Fish
7- Lennard
8- Max
9- G Train
10- Bakes
11- Joey
12- Nick (don't like Roo only because it reminds me of Riccuitto)
13- Schneider Man (one of the best in the league)
14- Bally
15- Gards
16- Raph (usually followed up with a " Your killing me!!")
17- Kiaora (because i am a kiwi)
18- Brendon
19- Shanks (because he is lanky as&he has long shanks)
20- D.A
21- Kid
22- Power (would've been Speed but he is slow as)
23- Kos
24- Seany D
25- Fish
26- Dal
27- Blakey
28- Friggin (he either does something friggin good or friggin bad)
29- Big Rix
31- Goose
32- MoeQualter (we all remember that awesome moustache he had)
33- Jimmy
35- Harvs
36- Other J.A
38- Hads (have a mate that looks like him called haddin)
42- Top (just put it before his last name)
43- J.A
44- Milney

Thats most of them, i know that i didnt list every player because the ones i did miss was because i havent seen them play yet. some of the names ain't that original or different but its just what i call them.

Do you know why people have "knick names"? It's the reason I refrain from using them.

Hint: the answer lies in the word "knick", not the Americanised version "nick".

Leigh Fisher was at the club first- had been there a year or so before Sam arrived and was already Fish

so Sam got Chips to go with the Fish

2nd hint: No-one likes being called by their "knick-name". Example: are you more likely to respond to a call of "Johnny" than "big nose"? Knick names are almost always derogatory. People should be given the respect of being called by their preferred name, usually their first, unless they were named Gerald or Melva by vindictive parents.

milney also gets milnedog and dogga,
roo gets snowy by thejiggingsaint

and nah nicknames in footy terms i dont think are degrading i think they're good unless you're writing an article in the newspaper, then stick to the real names. otherwise call em by their nicknames unless its rat face or something

Doesn't 'knickname' or 'nickname' originally come from 'eke' name - meaning "additional name,"

Nothing derogatory in that at all (some nicknames may be -most aren't) -and very australian - the aboriginal use skin names and nick names - allows many groups to talk about the deceased without using their given name.

'chips' is a great nickname given 'fish'! but where does 'banger' come from?

I think it's from a Harvey Wall Banger - a cocktail that i imagine would have been pretty popular at the Moorabbin Disco back in the day.

we call bj "go-go" here.

basically because of those first few years he played and everyone was raving about him being #1 pick up etc, and he didnt seem to really produce or seem to be worth it.......so we kinda named him go-go, sorta after inspector gadget, because u just wanted him to get the footy and run...ya know, kinda like hear him say to himself.. "go go gadget legs!" and he starts running and playing well....and then with his surname starting with 'go' it seemed to stick.

8-)

edit: of course he is completely a diff player now and is vital to us i think :D
