Training Report 3 Sep

Post: # 634998Post saintsRrising »

I arrived about 2 and stayed till 3 (training was still going, but I wanted to go home and watch the replay on FOX  ).

Crowd: about 150

Players not there: did not see Ball or Rix

Concerns:

The only player with a concern was Schneider who had his right calf strapped. He sarted slowly lagging behind the others on the laps and walking by himself fora bit.

However he then joined in general training with the others and did not appear to be different.

Others of note:

X trained strongly.

M Gardiner was there and trained stronly too.

Gwilt was doing drills as a HF.

Luke Miles was mainly doing one on one skill work witha development coach.

Goose was there too and looked very fit. His legs were well defined with lots of muscle. Good sign for next year.

General:
The players were all in good spirits with lots of chat.

Players were working in various groups doing laps, skill work etc. Then some various set lays of running the ball from midfield to targets in the forward line.

.

Selection; ?
Who knows...but we havea wide pool of choice...X, Gardi, Ferg, etc....

There was nothing about training to suggest who.

Yes he trained very well.

Did everything all the other players did.

Not surprisingly in the drills was a key forward.

How was Goose moving?

Did he appear to be restricted in any way?

Agility? Pace? Strength? Skills?

Goose did not do all the mobility work of the others.

He mainly did handball drills.

He did not appear restricted in any way and looked liked he could play next week.

His body was looking very ripped and so I suspect he is doinga lot of gym/weight work. His legs looked larger than I remember and both were of the same size.

I'll throw mine in here as well

I'm sure i've missed a few but did the best I could, only named players I figured could possibly play in the coming weeks (Beside's Goose & Dempster )

A few didn't do much more than run a few laps and a few drills, but I think that's just general soreness.

Everything Fine - Jason Gram, Steven King, Xavier Clarke, Lenny Hayes, Max Hudghton, Leigh Montagna, Nick Riewoldt, Raphael Clarke, Aaron Fiora, Brendon Goddard, Sam Gilbert, David Armitage, Shane Birss, Justin Koschitzke, Sam Fisher, Nick Dal Santo, Jason Blake, Charlie Gardiner, James Gwilt, Robert Harvey, Jarryd Allen, Clinton Jones, Jarryn Geary, Stephen Milne, Robert Eddy, Andrew McQualter.

Xavier Clarke - Trained well, looks the goods for selection this week.

Fraser Gehrig - Trained real well, looks very very fit, beard gone, head shaved, could be a smokey.....maybe not this week, but don't be suprised to see him play 1 more game.

Adam Schneider - Ran laps the whole time, began slow, but pace picked up as training went on, he will play.

Luke Ball - Has thrown on a little bit of size, was out there, but didn't train, his arms look like Benny Cousins did last year in his 1st game back against the swans

Michael Gardiner - Looked ok, seemed to be getting around fine, tough to see him getting into the side now though, big injury risk.

Sean Dempster - Didn't see anyone on crutches, so he wasn't there i'd say.

Matt Maguire - Was just doing handballs and short kicks, seemed ok jogging around, he's got a mean tan on himself.....looks black

No....I did not see Dempster either left him out from my report. I would assume that he is in for surgery.

Guys don't get your hopes up about Fraser.

He trained today, sure, but only as strongly as everyone else.

And - for mine he has adopted more of a mentor rather than participator role on the track. He's quite vocal and offers support, advice.

Also, didn't Heath Black mention he'd (Gehrig) had retired quietly??

SEN saying Frase trained strongly is just SEN saying stuff. It's their occupation.

Otherwise, pretty much concur with the posts above.

Lenny and BJ did only very limited ball work.

Chips and Kingy ran laps together - Kingy puffing it up nicely.

Roo limited ball work, a few strongly run laps (to applause!)

Bally jacket on - not training.

Harvey, Raf, Roy Schnieds and Dal ran laps and did 100m 3/4 pace run-through's together, then joined the limited ball work group.

At one point, the group of four above ran past starting a new lap and a little girl yelled out "Go Robert Harvey!" in a very young voice. Dal, Raf and Roy laughed wryly - it seems they are used to Banger getting the attention from the fans! Dal said something like, "Geez, c'mon kids..."... ol' Banger was just chuckling away to himself.

I think anyone not mentioned above (bar LTI's) trained with the large main group.

X looked good, fit and sharp.

Steven seems to hit every target.

Eddy works his arse off.

At one point, Jones was practicing kicking one-on-one with a coach.

Fiora was practicing goals on the run towards the end - nailed a few.

Leigh Fisher stayed out for longer, did some agility tests and a fast lap.

Rix WAS there, and was still on the field when all the rest had finished and I was leaving. He was mentoring McEvoy on 1-on-1 ruck situation, with little LJ throwing the ball up for them. Good egg is that Rix.

From what I saw today, I still think Demp OUT - X IN.

However, it seems L Fisher and perhaps Firoa are being considered.

Mini I think is very unlucky - got sick at the wrong time of year.

Over&Out.

I am not.

But he did train well...with clean hands.

I think the onlt way he would play though would be if Roo and kosi were both injured.

Yeah I know - you're a pretty logical sort. 8-)

There is, however, a whole new thread here on the big man!

I rate it about 1000/1 that he'll play again.

Well I guess after Sunday hopes and dreams are alive and well.

...and that is not such a bad thing.

Tis great to be heading into finals with a bouyant feeling...

However what we need to complement Roo and Kosi is mobile marking targets with running ability.

Hence for structure Charlie and Gwilt are better opyions for us.

Thanks for the report both sRs and The Saintsational Man...

One would think that X will come in for Dempster as the only change IMO.

Did Mini train and if he did what was he like?

Rix should be nowhere near Big Mac! After what Rix shows us at AFL level I hope Big Mac doesn't get to his level!
