Does Eddy keep his spot?

Post: # 644785Post kp83 »

I love the way he goes about it and his endurance is obviously one of the best at the club, but I just thought he struggled a bit on Saturday. Particularly in 1 on 1 contests, he would spill a mark or go to ground too easily. I think the experience of 2 finals would have done him the world of good, but IMO Birss would be a better option in an intense prelim with his superior marking ability and better skills.

Someone's gotta go out for Ball
Not Allen - he probably will be replaced with a 'tall'.

Tell him to wear stops in his boots FFS!

I'd be surprised if he gets dropped, I think he's one of Ross' favorites but Birss would be a better option (plenty of Hawks in the midfield that he could run with- Bateman possibly).

Assuming that Kosi gets off, we'd be presumably looking at bringing back Charlie or possibly Fiora (if fit: I've lost touch with the Fiora story) for Allen. I don't know what Lyon will do, but I would go with Fiora. Charlie's had his chances and has delivered a little, but not enough IMO. Fiora's run and long (albeit not particularly accurate) kicking might be useful against the dreaded midfield flood.

If Ball is fit, or if we promote Birss, it would presumably be a choice between Eddy and Armo. I would suspect that Lyon would be inclined to go with Eddy ahead of both Armo and Birss, and I tend to agree with him. Like many on here, I like the way Birss plays, but I think that Eddy is actually better than Birss at the job that Lyon wants him to do: floating on the outside, getting loose, distracting the defence.

I suppose the other option is to bring in Ball, Birss and Fiora for Eddy, Armo and Allen - with Fiora playing the Eddy role, Gwilt playing permanently forwafd in the Allen/Charie role, and Birss replacing Armo.

But I reckon that would be too much change.

Well Allen effectively came in for Ball anyway.

I reckon Allen actually came in for Charlie Gardiner.
Armo came in for X Clarke.

Ball wasn't in the team the week before.

Eaxctly...Ball was NEVER going to play against the Pies.

However...the Hawks rucks are lumberers...so Lyon with Kosi's return to form as a forward may elect to go with King and Blake in the ruck with Kois asa permanent forward (though will do the ruckwork in the forward 50)..

Was good against the Hawks last time from memory, and is going to be a massive part of our future.

Whether or not Robert Eddy plays is not going to determine whether we win on Saturday night.

Hence, I would play him ... give him more games, more experience and more time, so by this time next year we talk about him starting in the 18, rather than being on the fringe of the side.

The less changes the better too. We haven't made many in the past few weeks, and it's starting to pay off IMO.

OUT: Allen (inj)
IN: Ball (if fit, otherwise Birss)

Birss AND Ball can both be effective up forward if they need to be, so no worries there.

We need the extra run against Hawthorn too.

I think Eddy will stay in. He needs to stay on his feet though. Noticed a few times on Sat night him going in on a 1 on 1 contest and be beaten cause he went to ground. Just his inexperience i suppose.

Should be a gun next year.

If L Ball is fit, McQualter or Eddy would be the man to drop out...

Allen - C Gardiner

I think Ball for Eddy, Eddy can lay a tackle but doesn't get it enough and has had plenty of game time to prove himself, Armo just ahead of him on feel alone I reckon...Armo's use of the ball marginally better...

The big one is Allen's replacement, we need the extra tall, its a must, only options in ressies really are Gardiner, Ferguson and McEvoy...none deserve their spot... I would probably go for Ferguson, with the big worry that he has played in defence of late....very tough call...

From what I saw yesterday, Birss was OK, as was X, McEvoy struggled, as did Ferg in defence and Charlie up forward....someone will be lucky I feel....

Big week selection wise....

Thought Eddy was good on Sat. night....strong body in the forward line, lovely pass to Dal - just needs to work on his goal kicking accuracy.
He's going to be a gun.

Don't forget against Hawthorn last time, Ross Lyon picked the extra "runner" ... went with a faster and pacier side ... it worked.

No reason to replace Allen with a tall this week IMO.

Roughead - S. Fisher
Franklin - Hudghton
R. Campbell (when forward) - Blake
Williams - Gilbert (was good last time)
Rioli - Jones

We have them covered down back ...

We need someone extra who can slot goals from the half forward line. I think Charlie is a bit slow, so I don't know who would be the best for that role -I think Birss is still worth a shot.

YES... why wouldn't he? If he wasn't doing his job, he'd have been dropped by now.

Proven performers only. thank you very much.

Expect Jones to goto Hodge if he plays across half back.

Agree. Two feet on the ground is half way to saving a turnover. The Pies found this (and a few others as well) against us.

That's what im thinking, but if Ball doesn't come up just Birss for Allen. In regards to Eddy its a toss up between him and McQualter but Mini may get the role in Mitchell. Some are suggesting Armo but his attack on the ball contributes a bit and he won some good 50-50 balls on the weekend from either hardball gets or winning the free from being first in.

RL will go for a similar mosquito fleet this time IMO...puts pressure on the likes of Hodge, Mitchell, Bateman, Crawford, Lewis and gives us a chance to out-run their rolling flood. Remember Jones running down Buddy last time...man, I'd love to see that again!

Can't see why you'd replace Eddy, he's been doing a good job, has a cool head and seems to gel well with the other members of the team. We should dominate the ruck, so why make the team top-heavy. I agree with most, Ball or Birss in for Allen - no need to make unnecessary changes and upset the team balance, we match up well with the Hawks.

Watched the game twice, and both times it didn't change!
He only had 9 pos, 4 tackles. THAT'S IT!!!!
Not enough to guaranty a spot this week!!!
He'll be unlucky to be dropped, but I would!!!!

In: Ball, M. Gardiner
Out: Eddy, Allen (inj)

If Ball plays, the one change for Allen. If he doesn't, Birss gets his recall and still the one change. It was a great win and there's no need to mess around with "the winning team"
