Well done Hawks.....

It just shows what can be done when you get most things right....

some, but not all being:

Great use of the rookie system....

Good use of players fron other Clubs...Dew and Guerra..both gained for bugga all..

Good Drafting...their pick selection has been top notch..

Good trading to magnify picks...

And most of that originally done when they were a financial basket case (which blows the MYTH put about by those fans of our previous football department saying that lack of $$$ was his excuse for poor drafting and trades...).

Innovative coaching...congrats to Clarkson (and lots of zoning. kicking backwards etc etc...)...and active list management to builda balanced team and get in any laks (Dew, Rioli.....). they have built their structure over years.

If the Saints want to taste success like that we need to get most things right

Luke Hodge. The most deserving Norm Smith medal winner in many years. Just too bloody good by a country mile

Great victory and full deserved.

Hawthorn took their chances all year.

There is a likelihood Hawthorn might not win another premiership for 10-15 years.

But they had a chance and they took it. It's what footy is all about.

Well done Hawks.

Even a thread congratulting Hawthorn is an opportunity for you to wheel out your obsession?

Man, you seriously need help.

Is it just me, or is Chance Bateman Johnny Platten's afterbirth?

Interesting to hear Clarko say that they had modelled their club on Geelong, Port Adelaide and St Kilda.

Just one of the four yet to taste the ultimate success.

Indeed. Anyway, it wasn't the previous football department that passed up the chance to recruit Cyril Rioli.....

Well done to the Hawks. They made the most of their opportunity and the rest is history. Geez how many "experts" tipped Geelong for the premiership?

I was thinking "what the hell is he doing" when he stuck the hat on himself and walked away. I mean... huh?

the hawks remind me of the saints in 04, but to an extent....

i personaly think geelong 'deserved' it.
i wasnt a big fan of the idea that hawks win, cuz of all their glory in the 70's, plus the cats arnt to popular with the cups.

but hey...i just cant wait for the saint's run nxt year, we made the preliminary in 04, additionaly 05, i say will make it again nxt year, and from our expeirence shuld nail it.

this time, it'll be--------

DO IT FOR MAXY!!!!

Only looked at himself 10 times on the big screen compared to an average 30. I'd say it helped the Hawks win the game!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

The Hawks did benefit from some absolutely woeful decisions by other clubs.

Freo gifting them Hodge . . . and then to top it all off they gave them Croad back.

Great work there from the Hawks. Almost Packer-esque.

The other bonus was obviously Franklin. Heck even the Hawks got that one wrong the first time round.

No doubt though they deserve full credit for making some brilliant decisions both on and off the field.

My point on the Hawks is that they have won a flag...not by luck 9though yes any team is subject to some random happenings...but by consistently over time doing a lot of things right.

There is not one forumla for winning a flag... (Lions, Swans, Cats. Weagles, Hawks are all different)....but you need to get most things right.

This the Hawks clearly did.

I found myself backing the Cats during the game, but seeing Scarletts devestated face after the game swung me... Im glad the Hawks won...

Congratulations to them...

I actually tipped the Hawks based on their ruthless deconstruction of us last week, and I rarely tip a winner (yep, last year I was on Port...Sweet Jesus what was I on?...)

Lessons?

Absolute sacrifice in ruthless pursuit of the ball will win you games. They were absolutely manically obsessive in the way they went about it hunting the pill, and I admire them for it. Get 22 Sainters on the park that do the same and we'll taste success too.

Anyway, good on 'em, the Hawkers. Thought they were pretty classy in victory, too. Harley, too, was humble in defeat (a long way from Hird's pitiful effort when done by Lions all those years ago - still rankles).

Felt a bit for Ablett. He's an absolute gun and he fought a lone midfield hand today. Should have won a Brownlow, and now this little bit of Geelong chokery to end a pretty shitty week for the young fella...

As for Milburn and and Scarlett. Bite me!
