Young Irish recruit for the Saints?

Post: # 669667Post starsign »

Player manager Ricky Nixon has embarked on an ambitious program with his Irish academies and its success could be measured shortly.

It is believed a young fella headed for St Kilda in the coming weeks has Nixon and the Saints very excited.
Wow, this sounds good!!

Seems like Ricky Nixon and the Saints have a very healthy relationship going on at the moment.

Well I am certainly excited!!!!!

I think it as been pretty clear for a bit that we were taking an Irish International rookie this year....based on the earlier reports.....and Archie going to Ireland to do the deal...

From all reports it is Neel McKeever, a 195cm lad expected to play in the midfield.

He was playing last night, yeah?

If it's the same guy he looked very handy.

Hope he is a bit tougher than those poofs who play that round ball garbage.

Some good Irish recruits once they learn the Aussie way of playing footy, not that pussyfoot crap.

Biggest problem is the shape of our ball (hence the reason the Irish insist on playing that IR farce with their football  ).

But lets hope the young bloke goes well.

Lance or James??

I think he is a lot younger than the McKeever who played last night. May be a younger brother. Anybody know?

Definitely worth a punt - alot of those Irish guys are very good athletically (see Kennelly & Clarke). If they can adapt to the skills required with the oval ball as well as the two aforementioned players, could be a handy pick up considering he wouldn't even be taking up a spot on the main rookie list!

No idea.

From another article there was a suggestion that there were two Irish players we were interested in - one unnamed and the other Niall McKeever.

The unnamed one was apparently running around in the international rules, but is less likely to be interested.

McKeever and Meredith to trial Down Under
http://www.hoganstand.com/Antrim/Articl ... ?ID=102717

22 October 2008

Antrim’s Niall McKeever and Conor Meredith of Laois are two of four Irish players scheduled to trial with AFL clubs next month, Australian players’ agent Ricky Nixon has confirmed.

It is already known that McKeever will spend a week with St. Kilda after catching Nixon’s eye during trials he held in Ireland over the summer.

St Kilda CEO Archie Fraser said: "There is a slightly different opportunity for the kids who are from the south of Ireland, as opposed to the lure of kids from up north, who maybe have less of a chance historically of securing a chance of an All-Ireland final."

Though International Rookies are their own category.

It adds some extra interrest to see how he develops.

Still Irish players while having delivered some very good players are also more likely than not to not make it....

Stll the MORE players we look into and work through....the more likely we are to unearth some extra talent.

SHUSH

Haven't you people learnt anything from the time Collingwood stole one of our NSW scholarship player after his name was revealed in the press before he signed the contract.

Eddie has plenty of money to splash around and he can splash it so that it cheats the salary cap.

Remember Buckley, the best recruit since Robert Harvey, zoned to Brisbane went to Collingwood for No12 draft pick in 1993.
In those days pick 12 was a lottery.
Only the tax office knows how much money Buckley secretly got.
The AFL and Brisbane were hopeless and helpless.

If you must name names then lets call him Shaun O'Guire to put Eddie of the scent.

You can use his real name when the kid is signed up.

When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Whomever it is would already be signed up....

If it is Niall it may well be conditional on him doing ok when he comes out to train with us in Nov.

I'm pretty sure GAA players don't fall under the international rookie rules as must be put on the main rookie list. I recall reading that there was an exclusion of this sort to keep the AFL-GAA relationship on the level.

A few "O Hail Marys" we don't go for another O'Hailpin. Someone as good as Marty Clarke will be a good get.
