Telstra Dome or Etihad Stadium????
OK, what should we call the big tin shed that is our home?
The AFL have once again the other day stated that they will continue to refer to the stadium as "Telstra Dome", as Ethiad Airways is a competitor to Qantas, an AFL sponsor I believe. (It is also against Emirates a huge Pies sponsor!).
I believe we should side with the AFL on this one, as we are trying to get a better deal for our club at the Dome, just as the AFL are after on our (and other club's behalfs).
I understand there is a move to change our Moorabbin Wing singage to Ethiad Stadium - and I ask the question - is this really necessary if we agree with the AFL's stance?
Thoughts??

Heaven when the sainters win and Hell when the visiting sinners spoil the party
As much as I am loath to agree with the AFL it is Docklands for me![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Oh and fear not...all we have to do is remove the "Telstra Dome" reference on the signs.....ive not been told we have to add the new name
The direction to mention TD came in the early days of it being named so..and the particular Operations Manger who asked for it is long gone

Either way the place will have more names in the future...tis the nature of corporate branding being slapped on Stadiums.
Colonial Stadium...Telstra Dome...Etihad Stadium...who knows what comes next??? Either way all home clubs should get a slice as it is through their branding at home games that the place gets exposure therefore increasing the value to the name rights holder.

Interesting piece in the Age sports section today about how smug the ABC are at the moment as they have never mentioned corporate names and always stuck to Docklands Stadium.
A lesson in there for all of us. Will save us grief next time the damn name changes as well.
Dunno why they don't permanently dedicate it to Tina Arena and call it Arena Arena.

exactly, but Docklands management are too smart for their own good on this one.No1_Saint wrote:Either way the place will have more names in the future...tis the nature of corporate branding being slapped on Stadiums.

The AFL will win out IMO....they are, afterall, the major tenant and eventual owners of the ground.
Collo will get shot down in court I hope!
So it's now Docklands Stadium, sounds alright to me.
You may want him shot down in court but if the owners dont make more money then we have even less hope of getting a better deal. Hopefully if the owners make more money we may have a slight hope of getting a better deal in seasons to come.saintspremiers wrote:exactly, but Docklands management are too smart for their own good on this one.No1_Saint wrote:Either way the place will have more names in the future...tis the nature of corporate branding being slapped on Stadiums.

It's about how Docklands/Collo distribute their money that is the issue.plugger66 wrote:You may want him shot down in court but if the owners dont make more money then we have even less hope of getting a better deal.
