Were we robbed of two goals ?

Post: # 721743Post Enrico_Misso »

I was sitting on L3 behind the goals at the Northern end.

1) Looked like Roo got his foot to the ball a metre out just before the defender got his hand there but called as touched.
(That broke our run of 13 goals straight in Qtrs 2 to 3).

2) The snapshot from Gram a bit later that qtr looked to be clearly over the line before a WCE fist touched it.

Has anyone seen these on slow-mo or better on side angles ?

Yep and add another one where Roo handballed to BJ ( i think) in the first qtr, but was called a throw.

That ump is up for a holiday next week

It was a one handed paddle of a ball that was on the deck.
Definitely not a handball.
But definitely not a throw !

We kicked 25 goals and won by 97 points.

In the scheme of things I don't think 2 or 3 out of the dozens of umpiring errors during the game mean much.

Bring on Freo.

I was sitting in the Social Club forward pocket area on Level 1 and Gram's long bomb was at least half a metre over the goal line before it got touched. Unbelievable decision. Riewoldt's "throw" to Goddard who snapped what should have been his 4th goal in the opening quarter seemed to be a legitimate handball. What made that decision more perplexing is that the umpire called it a throw when he was on the opposite side of the pack. It would have been near impossible for him to see anything that would vindicate his decision. I couldn't judge whether Riewoldt's kick on the goaline was touched or not, but the sheer velocity of the ball suggests that the last thing it touched would have been Riewoldt's flying foot and not a defenders hand. So thats possibly 3 goals that we were very unlucky not to have on the scoreboard.

He looked like he would do that but then he punched it with his other hand. Definite handball. Cost Goddard a 5th goal in the first quarter.

shame really as it was a really nice kick from fifty after the earlier goal from him.
bold statement: it was almost a whole of one meter over the line.

We sit directly side on to the Lockett end goals on L2 & we could clearly see Gram's kick pass the goal line before the Eagles player touched it.

Roo's goal was kicked out of the hand of the Eagles defender (was paid touched and not kicking in danger!).

The umpire was on the same side of the pack as we were & you couldn't judge whether Roo threw the ball or not. He guessed & then gifted the Eagles a goal through a rubbish 50 metre penalty. Umpire Stefan Grun. Same idiot that was offended by Brad Johnson's gesture last week & hit him with a 50.

it was an absolutely disgraceful blunder from the goal umpire that needs to be replayed to him so that he can learn. you cant call them touched. that was a blistering kick from fifty and a beautiful goal.

you were right to remind that idiot dools.

Don't forget Goddard's goal that was disallowed because Roo "threw" it, when the footage clearly showed he handballed it.

clearly a handball from Roo

From my vantage point he certainly seemed to shape to paddle it.

But I happily defer to your judgement and the benefit of a replay.

to be fair young man that umpire not only could not see the handpass/throw by roo but the football had actually rebounded off the goal post

This was the problem all day, he umpires were stuck on the wrong sid of packs and just guessed via the outcome not what they actually saw.

Little bit disapointing..... was terrible both ways

how dare we talk about the game today

this is the problem with the umpiring these days, no one is willing to make the call that it was wrong because certain people come out and accuss them of umpire bashing.

The level was very poor from the umpiring group today. So was the play of the eagles. Strange how we can say the second bit but not the first.........
