Tredrea Threat Numero Uno!!!

Post: # 726581Post saintspremiers »

How on earth are we going to stop him?

Or do we concede 5 goals to him and just cut off the supply elsewhere?

Port @ AAMI (or anywhere) is a major concern for us IMO.

You can almost chuck out 4 rounds of great form and start with a clean slate against these guys.

I'm not saying we can't get over them (we should), but it will be a tough slog.

Every year Treadrea starts to find form in or around our game, doesn't look to be different this year.

Our backline has already held their own on the AAMI turf so far this year, so let's see if they can do it again.

IMO they can. Saints by 10 to 20.

would be great if we had max back, as Fisher doesn't do well against the big forwards one on one (like pav this week) and Dawson is inexperienced. But saying that, i would start with Dawson on him

Zac first surely, did ok on BBBH week one, is deceptively quick and can get the spoil in too.

Who's going to get Motlop? Think him and the little mosquito fleet are more of a worry - they have been in the past...... imo!

these blokes get in our hair everywhere, forget the forwards, just be stronger at the footy.

ps. I have done a dozen posts or so tonight without mention of Bakes, great to see him back too, he is a key

Zac to take Treadrea, Fisher as the back up

I agree with TTS, it's there little players that always seem to get us... still I like the idea of Geary, Jones, McQualter Vs Motlop, Rodan and Pearce

Put Goose on him for sure. Needs a big body on him.

Yep, its definitely not a case of "Stop Treadrea, stop Port". There's a lot more we have to focus on if we're gonna knock this mob off.

Next week is so bloody important in the context of our season - its more like a 12 point game.

The four points we get, the four points they don't get and the four points we don't miss out on.

As well as that, a win would have us looking nigh on unstoppable and with the next four after that in the comfy confines of the Docklands, we'd be looking to seal a finals spot really early!

Having said that, a loss would hurt. If we lose, I hope its close. And I hope its because they outplay us. Not because we give up and go soft and let them steamroll us like we did in the corresponding matches against them in 2007 and 2008. Because if we get steamrolled, that will kill off our momentum. And that could really hurt with the Bulldogs and Collingwood to follow immediately after that.

All I can ask for is a good hard four quarter effort and to keep applying whatever it is we've applied these first four weeks but with more intensity.

If we play like that, we should be able to beat them. Actually, playing like that and we should be able to take it up to anyone, even a full-strength Geelong (maybe)

There's no more excuses. All losses this year simply MUST be because we tired hard all day or night but the opposition was just better than us.

Personally, I think there are better port players to worry about than Warren Tredrea.

Cut off the supply and Tredray (or whatever he calls himself) won't see the ball.

Can someone please please PLEASE take out J Carr! Hate that little sniper!

At the same time can we organise someone to "legitimately" take out Kane Cornes - super player and tagger who seems to get enough of his own ball but will put the clamps on his opposition.

Lets hope that he goes to NDS and we're shown how good Dal's gone up in expectations, class and results!

Putting Goose on Tredrea would be a big mistake imo. Yes he is starting to find form in the VFL, but its a big ask to put him on an in-form player like Tredrea after being out of the game for almost a year.

Put Fisher or Blake on him.

smash em in the midfield.

Choke and pressure their supply...

Fly home with the four points....

fair point. would be a tough assignment first up against one of the in form players in the competition.

blake has probably "earned" first crack at him.

fisher, i think, might not have the physical strength ... but i've been wrong before.

goose could probably come in to play kosi's role with riewoldt and bj rotating through ff.

Tredrea at the mo might just be too strong, too experienced, too confident, and just too good for zac. i'd ask blake to put his hand up!

wasn't max one week away last week?

good as zac has been, tredrea at his best, and that's what he was at on the weekend, will eat him for breakfast. Max with 0 games this year would be a better option.

i'm tempted to say even goose would be, he might at least be worth including. but if we don't bring someone in for the job, it'd have to be Fisher or Blake, with the other one taking Motlop

Ebert hasn't played a good game since 2007 and other than that they don't have much up forward.

Dawson the likely matchup IMO but I think he'd struggle. Gilbert and Blake will need to play on Ebert and Motlop. Expect to see PLENTY of support for our defence on Friday.

Would rather Max ease back in the ressies. He's came back and pulled a hammy/calf in the opening minutes before and would not want that to happen again.

Goose not ready (and may never be again, but that's a different topic).

Got a feeling Goddard could go head-to-head with Chad Cornes with Jones tagging Shaun Burgoyne. I don't like it, but I think Gwilt will start at FF with Gards spending some time there too.

If Dal, Joey, BJ, Lenny, Ray, Jones, Geary, Gram, Baker and McQualter can keep up their form in the midfield then we'll win regardless.

i wouldn't like it either.

it would mean that one of the key specialist positions on the ground is being filled by a part-timer ... sort of like australia opening the bowling with simon katich.

hope we can kick enough goals
That's why I'm hoping we bring Lynch in. He can be that extra leading option that is either ignored by the opposition (will equal goals) or someone who takes a bit of heat off Riewoldt and Milne. Gwilt isn't smart enough to play forward and Gardiner isn't quick enough. McEvoy is a possibility but that leaves us with three lumbering giants, which is not ideal against Port.

We'll probably see BJ or Gilbo spend a bit of time there but both are needed elsewhere, and are better suited to being impact players rather than permanent forwards.

the structure has been pretty good, so i don't see a reason to mess with it wholesale.

the safest best is to find someone who can be a straight swap for kosi ... someone who can provide a strong aerial presence and allow us to kick to a contest and hopefully also snag a few goals.

i'd think goose or mcevoy would be the obvious choices if we intend to replace like for like. if we don't, then x might get the nod.

lynch sounds extremely promising but whether he is ready for senior football i couldn't tell you.

having said all of that, our record against this team is poor, particularly in adelaide.

it is a huge test for the club and, as you suggest, the result won't necessarily be determined by structure.

if we don't turn up to play nothing will save us.
