Public Holiday? Pies v Saints
I know we play them on a Monday night- i just want to know if it is a public holiday?
I live in Brisbane and we have a public holiday this coming Monday, does Vic and QLD have different public holidays?
or why do we play on the Monday against Magpies?

You are on the money.saintsRrising wrote:It is not a Public Holiday.
The only reason for it is TV and the AFL's lust for money.
In the USA Monday night football is huge and generates lots of dollars.
From my perspective of someone that likes to go to games..it sucks bigtime.
I love the timeslots when the saints aren't playing, however it's not the best time to attend.
That said, I will be there watching the saints notch up win number 7 for the year.
I just can;t see the Monday night thing taking off in this country. Sure, for novelty value this coming game might go alright, but not in the longer term.
I reckon a better candidate is Thursday night isn't it? I mean, you can virtually taste the weekend by then.

true. but there is a focus there that has not been there before and for us it will be a good occassion to not only beat collingwood but also to show that we can do it any time and anywhere.fingers wrote:Problem with mondya night football is that the game cannot be reviewed on "On the couch" or "The Winners" .
in the grand scheme of things it shows that collingwood have no excuse and that they should be doing something more constructive. it also has them out of their comfort zone that is saturday 2:10pm MCG.
Footy Classified - NO ROOM FOR THE, who farted?
thursday night games are already being played Beno.
we know the reasoning and it adds to the overall theatre.
monday night football in my opinion will be great for us. if its a rainy night then it will be even better.
the ferals dont like coming down to the dome at the best of times.
a monday night and they will be genuinely unhappy about it.
nothing better than beating an unhappy collingwood.

The problem with the Monday night game is that your average supporter has to try and get home sometime before midnight especially for those living on the Pakenham/Frankston lines especially when I doubt Connex will run any extra trains which means one train every 20 minutes.
And then for someone like me I have to be awake at 6am to be in for work before 730am and the days of getting by on limited sleep are long gone.
Such is the lifestyle for those who picked this timeslot, eg AFL house, they mustn't have to get up early in the morning especially after a train trip with all the ferals, er I mean Collingwood supporters.
General discussion with my fellow Sainters is that we're reluctant to attend for all of the above reasons, which is disappointing, but at least I have Foxtel which means the game will be telecast live and not on delay.
The NRL is dumping Monday night games because it's a flop and let's hope the AFL gets a similar message.

i see it as an overall bonus that people will talk about us being the first team to have ever won on a monday night.

I dont have kids, so I guess its alot easier for m.
If you dont have bloody kids, bloody get there!
No good for me. My kids are grown up so thats not the problem. Its a bit difficult for me to finish work at 5.30, husband at 6, both drive home to meet up and take one car, drive in peak hour traffic over the West Gate to arrive there late, only to then have to get home late and be up by 1/4 to 6 the next morning.
I'll be watching from the couch.

After Collingwood is defeated by a world record margin of 200 points it will be declared a public holiday, and the Pope will name it Saint Kilda's Day.

Mother's Day games get shyte crowds in Melbourne so the AFL have only 2 games, both interstaters on.
Monday night has been used to help get around the problem, and also an excuse to "trial" a different slot.
The AFL wanted to trail Monday nights..and I have no doubt Mothers Day is the reason they picked this particuar Monday
Agree though its a dumb idea...and an in-between 7.20 start totally dumb.
Seems a no-brainer to me to use Thursday nights more often next year..I too start work at the crack of dawn. I'm happy to bleary my way through a Friday and get into the weekend...but 5 hours sleep on a Monday Night??
