Gram To Miss?
SAINTS SET TO MAKE RARE CHANGE
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at 4:15 pmBY CHRIS WEAVER
ST KILDA looks set to make a rare change to its line-up this week, with half-back Jason Gram struggling with a thigh injury.
Gram injured his left thigh in the Saints hard-fought 19 point win over Essendon on Sunday, their eighth consecutive win.
The ex-Lion could manage just one lap of Moorabbin Oval on Wednesday, before heading for the changing rooms.
The settled Saints have used just 25 players this season, but may expand that tally by including either veteran defender Max Hudghton or utility Matt Maguire.
Maguire has been in particularly good form of late for the Saints’ VFL affiliate Sandringham, booting five goals on the weekend in the Zebras’ win over Werribee.
Previously this season Maguire has been used in defence and could play his first AFL game since Round 7, 2008.
St Kilda take on the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Clarke R for mine. Seems logical.
Bit of a bugger for Grammy. He won't be an automatic in once he's healed up.
No one is this year...
A wonderful conundrum...

Goose's delivery of the ball by foot is of a very similar standard to Gram's.....
But I would go with Raph rather than with any of Goose, Eddy or Armo. Raph could replace Ray, who could move further forward.
B4E, on the other hand, would probably like to see McEvoy brought in as a running wide receiver delivering the ball into the forward 50.

Jason Gram in doubt for Lions clash
Bruce Matthews | May 20, 2009 03:55pm
REBOUNDING St Kilda defender Jason Gram is in doubt for Sunday's game against Brisbane.
Gram is battling a thigh injury and did not train at Moorabbin today.
The dashing half-back managed to hobble only one lap with his left thigh wrapped in a heavy bandage from hip to knee before he disappeared into the dressing rooms.
While Saints officials said Gram has only bruising and he should be ready to train later in the week, the injury leaves the door open for either Max Hudghton or Matt Maguire to play their first AFL game this season.
Hudghton, a regular key defender, made a successful comeback with VFL affiliate Sandringham last weekend. And Maguire has booted five goals in each of the past two VFL games to push his recall claims.
Ev en if Gram proves his fitness, it's expected either Hudghton or Maguire will be back to assist Zac Dawson in the massive task of trying to contain the Lions' key targets - Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw.

wtf? Is Ray injured ? No way known he would be dropped !!
We do have one of the most versatile teams in the AFL in terms of players being suitable for many different positions. its not necessarily a like for like.kaos theory wrote:you need to replace like for like.
Gram has a midflield, line breaker role & sometime half back role.
Therefore its either raph or eddy.
I can't see goose getting in, he is not that type of player.

You've fallen for the old "post first, read later" trap. I've fallen for it myself in the past, but it's never a good look.iwantmeseats wrote:Is ray injured? Could NOT be dropped!!meher baba wrote:Goose's delivery of the ball by foot is of a very similar standard to Gram's.....

I'm talking about Ray playing in the role that Gram normally plays.

Goose at his best playing on Brown would certainly be fun to watch. But is Goose ready to come straight back in and face this challenge? It would be more than a bit of a risk.emmdee wrote:Goose for Gram cos of the Big B's up forward for Lions.... we used to lick our chops to see Goose vs Brown, if Matty is fit (should be) throw the challenge down.... Sam can do the Gram fill in ....

I think raph is the perfect like for like replacement. Takes risks like gram and gives plenty of run.d roit wrote:Well whoever we bring into the side, we still need a replacement wingmen/on-baller. I wouldnt mind seeing Goose back in defense, to allow one of the sams to play the gram role this week.
