Lenny's Piece of Magic

Post: # 778552Post mordi »

......in the 2nd quarter. It was Harvey-like (my highest compliment)

The AGE comments don't do it justice;

"TURNING POINT - When Lenny Hayes blind-turned through a pack, stepped around an opponent and found space to rattle the ball through the middle of the ground to find Nick Riewoldt for his third goal before half-time, it gave the Saints a 21-point lead and rendered the Crows' challenge dead."

One of those matrix moments, when everyone else seemed to be stopped or in slow motion, Lenny made them look ordinary. Would love to see that highlight on YouTube!

That piece of play was my equal highlight..along with Gilbo's two desperate tackles in the 3rd quarter.

His lateral movement is so freakishly good... he turned it on for a little bit earlier and they must have lost their nerve. None of the Crows were willing to go in for the tackle. Great to watch! :)

It's funny you say it was Harvey-like as that's exactly what i described it as. His opponents appeared to dissolve around him as he dodge, baulked and found space. Then his pass leads to a goal. Beautiful football.

Getting out of that pack like that was fair-dinkum sensational. It was Matrix-like indeed. He didn't try to do it, he just did it. And he didn't panic.

The famous quote was "Harvey would be difficult to tackle in a phone booth".

Applied to Lenny yesterday.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I thought you might.

Others can learn a lot from the way guys like Lenny and Harves approach the game. I believe it's their lack of fear. They totally let go and that's when things like that happen. They're playing the game, not trying to play the game.

And how Lenny got 6th best in the Herald Sun "best" is beyond a joke. They usually do better than that. I guess they only had their short term memory working.
When the game was "in the balance" he was clearly our best, in my opinion and probably spent a lot of time off the ground once we were well in front (only 71% of game time), yet still had 34 possies (no clangers) and 10 tackles! He's taken his game to a new level this year, which is saying something. I wouldn't swap him for Judd, or Ablett, at this point (in terms of pure playing ability).

I'd say he gets under the radar a lot, because he's so quiet and does so little media.

Lenny might finally get the recognition he deserves - he is this years premier midfielder, and has been in the top echelon for years!

Exactly the phrase I use too... I think it was Quartermain who said that years ago when Harvey dodged a few North players for 20 seconds and then decided to just kick the goal.

That was one of my Favourite Harvey moments. I actually dont think he moved but completely confused about 4 North players.
