Wasn't Loewe on the MRP that hung Gehrig for that jumper punch years ago.
If he is on the MRP then there is a major conflict of interest and he should stand down for St.Kilda cases.
Its like Judge Judy hearing a case involving her mum and dad.
Would not happen.

Does Judge Judy have a mum or dad? She looks like she was spawned in a petrie dish to me.

Silly comment imo and a slur on Stewies integrity

Very disappointed that a great man like Loewe would be involved in a pathetic inconsistent disgrace like this.

Not happy Stewie.

Stewie is a Saints great and a man of integrity.
I don't know the ins and outs of how the panel works, but I doubt he's sitting there and casting the deciding vote?

Yeah, but does it have to be unanimous? If not, and he "votes" in our favour, how does that make him responsible?

Conflict of interest? Welcome to the AFL. The whole structure from the administration, to the issue of Etihad, catering services, composition of the tribunal, the MRP, the rules committee, media commentators (KB and Luke Darcy commentate AND sit on the rules committee--no chance of any criticism there) and a hundred other things is riddled with conflicts of interest.

The structure is completely rotten.

Stewart Loewe is not a member of either the MRP nor the Tribunal. In fact, as far I as can tell, no former St Kilda player has any role at all in the AFL or its bodies.

Amended, see below.

He was quoted in the papers as having been part of this hearing, including Henderson and Schimmelbush...I think its in the Zac Verdict thread.

Haha! At least the paper got Schimma right.

In any case, if Stuie had been on the case, he'd have a job to do that no longer involves St Kilda, which you would expect him to do impartially. The issue is not so much the judgement, as the wild inconsistancy.

Wrong. Loewe has been a regular jury member since 2007.

Striving, never achieving. At least, I took the time to do the research. It would be nice if the AFL site had easy links to such things, but it doesn't.

Interesting that they were reported as deliberating for 30 minutes, which is reportedly a very long time for such deliberations.

So can we speculate that it was a majority decision with the vote split 2 to 1?

If that is the case, a case could also be had that Loewe, as a former St Kilda player, would vote against the St Kilda FC preferred outcome because to do otherwise could raise accusations of bias.

"St Kilda player Dawson's charge was thrown out on the vote of former St Kilda player, Loewe, when the vote was deadlocked at one all and Loewe had the casting vote".

Simply, Loewe, as a former St Kilda player should never have been put in such a position.

Protocol in such matters is well established in other forums.

The AFL, and those associated with it, have never ever understood the "conflict of interest" issue.

Henwood is interesting. A "bruiser" of a player who played with Glenelg before being recruited by Sydney and having a short career with that club.

You could speculate that Henwood voted in favour of Dawson, the former North Melbourne player and coach against and "over to you Stewart".

And Stewart says, "I played for St Kilda so I had better not make a home town decision because it could be construed as reflecting bias".

"Guilty" on a 2 to 1 vote.

That would be my defence in prosecuting the matter further, that it was obviously a split vote (because of the time taken) and Loewe (and the process) was compromised because of Loewe's association with St Kilda.

The player has not received the benefit of due process and the ban is overturned.

I think the speculation has a ring of credibility, Plugger.

A mate who umpired his son in under age cricket once told me that he had to tell his son that no matter the batsman was on the back foot, hit shin high in front of middle and comprehensively LBW, the batsman would not be given because the bowler was his son.

So his advice to his son was "get your wicket by either sending the stumps flying or having the batsman caught".

The son understood.
