Diving Fines

Post: # 848577Post Gilbert The Great »

not sure if this had been posted but what do you think about the proposed fines for diving? i think they are rediculous imo.

Lloydy Knew when to get out - maybe he had a hint,

Most of the Saints are now well practiced in getting up and getting to the next contest or going back in to get the ball

Great idea.

Will mean every dive is highlighted which will be embarrassing for the player and therefore limit the amount of attempts to con the umps.

But what about those who don't dive, but merely "make the most" of something? Will that be worthy of a fine?

And who's going to asess whether a player has dived or not?

A new DRP - Diving Review Panel consisting of
Matthew Lloyd
Greg Louganis
Monkey Boy

ANd will tehy be awarding points out of 10

Degree of difficulty - 5
Flair - 2
Loudness of appeal - 3

Brent Harvey should retire now, otherwise he'll end up paying more than he earns.

I think there needs to be a fining system for the great falling artists of the game.
Nothing sh*ts me more than the likes of Joel Selwood or Marc Murphy throwing their bodies back in dramatic fashion to con a free kick out of the umps when they have barely had someone grab their arm to make a tackle.
Damn cheaters, sh*ts me to tears.

 They still might be able to fine him if the Blues get their way. I heard something vaguely about it on radio this morning. I doubt too much if it'd ever happen, but interesting hearing it all the same.

Tell you what else has reached epidemic proportions that Id like to stamp out..

..the ridiculous sight of players standing round a pack waving their arms around in some sort of weird attempt to "appeal" for holding the ball

Its not cricket guys, you dont have to appeal. If the ump wants to pay it he will. Maybe go get the pill instead of spectating and flapping your wings like you are drying your nail polish

Irritates me no end lol

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately saints are bad offenders in that area.

If I was an ump I'd be less inclined to give a free if there were players whinging at me whilst flaping their arms.

Expensive year for Milney next year...

GAJ aka 'the little sook' should go broke, however he generally gets awarded for his diving

the other change they are looking at is increase penalty for repeat offenders-
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... 5786371344
THE AFL is weighing up whether to increase tribunal penalties for serial offenders, a move that would ramp up the pressure on temperamental Western Bulldogs star recruit Barry Hall.
a few other rules under review

I was about to suggest that the umpires should have the power to award a free-kick against a player he believes has dived...

...but can you imagine the amount of times they'll get that horribly wrong?

Scary thinking about it actually, what a dumb idea.

I can see it now:

Umpire awards a free-kick against Milney for a theatrical dive...

...Milney gets stretchered off after breaking his leg in three places.

Dogs should pay him per game.

I guess it's too much to hope Ducker Selwood gets nailed under the staging laws.

The diving fine idea introduces even more need to interpret intent. There's enough of this in the game as it is, and a good deal of inconsistency as a result.

I'd rather they work on finding ways to apply the rules that actually exist already.

For example, why aren't Geelong players pinged for throwing the ball into the turf when tackled?

Read the title of the thread and thought an SEN broadcaster's family had taken a trip to MSAC pool ...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I heard that this panel was being formed so that the AFL could employ more former indigenous players.
In particular one Gavin Wankerneen.
He has the perfect qualifications to lead this panel as he invented every dive that has ever been used in the AFL.
He is the only player to be knocked unconcious by a Fraser Gehrig punch that was not aimed anywhere near his head and never made contact.

have to laugh lloyd gets out then they worry about it if they had of stopped lloyd from doing it years ago then may be there would be no problems
if they pay the free's that are there and not the ones that are not then fine they tend to turn a blind eye to what some forwards cop ! josh gibson even admitted to doing stuff to buddy that should have been free's for him [ so glad he now is at hawks means buddy is safe from him LOL]
Nick has copped stuff Richo has quite a few have
some players seem to be able to dive and hardly get touched and get free's there is one that plays for the cats that seems to be the golden child of the umps !
