Roo's endorsement of the Liberals on Game Day

Post: # 975217Post Waltzing St Kilda »

Unnecessary. A lot of us follow the footy to get away from politics. Pull your head in, Nick.

So he voted Liberal. Good on him. So did half the country. I like a man with the courage of his convictions.

Fine to have his own opinion but he shouldn't be sharing it publicly - especially while appearing as a representative of the St Kilda Football club and especially when the result of the election is still in doubt.
I love him...hence my nickname
But very disappointed in this.

Oh FFS!
He is earning far too much money - obviously.
Lets take the Internet back to the 70s.

Seriously??? What's the problem? I don't care who voted for who, the door was opened with the question...good on him for being up front and honest and showing the courage of his belief.

Labor voters are bad losers aren't they? You should think yourself lucky that Abbot is the leader of the libs as had it been Hockey, you certainly wouldn't be waiting a few days to see the result!!!!

Seriously, you are taking the proverbially with this thread aren't you? FFS, some on here really need to pull their heads in! Who cares what his political views are? He was asked a direct question and answered it. Getting too precious. Heaven forbid that he has an opinion on a topic outside of football.

I would expect most people earning 800k a year voted liberal.

What's that saying - politics and religion should never be discussed in public? This is what leads to wars 8-)

FFS so he has an opinion and perhaps represents a % of footballers that can do more than just run after a ball.

It is his choice if he discloses anything and he chose to. If we were inthe US canditates get endorsed by athletes, celebs etc , that helped Obama a lot.

Does it affect his football - no , don't like it chose to ignore it. No affect on the club for having an opion on something outside of football. Better than some of the wood duck answers and comments that get bought up each week - " Nothing wrong with Etihad surface" , " Just a corky" , Will only miss a week"

I don't care who voted for who
Neither do I, but that's the problem -- Nick clearly cares who you voted for.

A smart footballer would have deflected the question: "Yeah, it was interesting result, wasn't it? We'll see what happens."

I just don't think footballers, particularly cpatains, should be advertising their political opinions. Until they're retired.

What do you base this massive assumption on. Did he say I voted for Liberal and anyone who didn't can go and get lost. Or did he simply say who he voted for?

Why can't we talk about who we voted for without thinking the person is trying to persuade your vote. I vote for labour but I don't try and tell other people who I vote for. Most people I work with vote liberal and they all know I am die hard labour doesn't mean we try and change each oters mind.

Look maybe he's politically motivated? Most ppl I know sadly couldn't give a stuff either way. At least he cares. Not sure it was appropriate either to be honest - I would have thought it was more appropriate if he had of voted Labor though

The thing I like about Nick this year is that he has proven he is not perfect. Should have answered Fish's phone call on xmas eve, and should have voted Labor. I still love the guy though 8-)

This election has swung on seats in Queensland and western Sydney where the dominant issue has been "Stop the boats".

These are the regions which gave Pauline Hanson her authority.

Victoria has swung to Labor, showing a maturity our fellow Australians in Queensland and western Sydney have not shown.

So, I reckon Nick is on dangerous ground.

To those of us who look on the results from Queensland and western Sydney with concern given what we have seen at Bondi Beach, in Melbourne and elsewhere where there have been racially motivated attacks - and who look for leadership and education to combat such community attitudes so that we have a cohesive, supportive and sustainable community (except for following different football teams!) the outcome is disappointing.

Remember that 45 years ago we were told that the "yellow vermin are coming to get us", resulting in over 300 conscripted Australians losing their lives in Vietnam.

So these scaremongering campaigns have been around for many, many years and it is time we grew up.
