The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

If you are not engaging AI actively and aggressively, you are doing it wrong.
You are not going to lose your job to AI.
You are going lose your job to somebody who uses AI.
Your company is not going to go out of business because of AI.
Your company is going to go out of business because another company used AI.

If we eliminate the rookie promotions (because they do not add new blood to a club) the pick order becomes.

* = Gold Coast FC compensation picks
FS = Father-son
SP = Scholarship promotion

Special Note: A full 12 months of fresh blood becomes eligible in this draft.
BUT last year Gold Coast signed 12 kids who would have become eligible for this draft.
AND Gold Coast has 3 Northern Territory and 5 Queensland Zone picks ahead of this National Draft.

St Kilda's fresh blood picks are 24, 43, 58, 72, 80, 82.

Given that Gold Coast has already picked over the crop before the draft starts,

I would expect St kilda to be passing at fresh blood picks 80 and 82 OR redrafting delisted players like Eddy and Miles if still available.

Fresh blood pick 72 could well be used on another clubs reject.

I thought that Tommy Walsh was elevated to our primary list because of Jesse Smith's injury last year...

So Jesse leaves and Tommy is back as a rookie ATM....

I hope that fires him up for a solid pre season

The kids the Gold Coast signed would have previously been bottom ahers in the 2009 draft under the old rules. The remainder of the four months that was taken out of last year's draft has been thrown into this one. Considering how much time you spent crying about 8 months last year, you should know this.

There has clearly been a vote of confidence in the depth of this draft by the clubs. 80+ live picks. Says a lot.

Not likely. If he hadn't had his shoulder issues may well have featured prominently in September/October.

BUT last year Gold Coast signed 12 kids who would have become eligible for this draft.
When you learn to read you will see that I have consistently made the point that the AFL has used the entry of Gold Coast to raise the minimum draft age by 4 months.
A move that I have previously praised and reluctantly given credit to my arch enemies Demetriou and Anderson.
This action reduces the number of kids who are drafted before they finish school.
I have also indicated in many posts - I do try to present the full facts about each draft - that these 12 kids were of an age in 2009 that would have allowed them to be drafted in 2008 and previous years, but not 2009.
You may also like to observe that now these 12 kids would have been top agers in the 2010 draft.

BUT until you learn to read your head will indeed remain a Vacuous Space.

As for the quality of this draft it will only be seen in years to come.
It may be great like 2001 or it could be pathetic like 2002.

But clubs have no choice, if their list can not deliver, they need to replace some with whatever is available in the hope they will be better.
Far from being a vote of support for this crop, the number of draft picks activated is a vote of no confidence in the players delisted.
They did not deliver success for most clubs.
Not surprising when success in the AFL is measured by premierships.

ace, I wonder if the AFL tampered with the age rules based on predicted draft strength in order to favour the Gold Coast?

Just a conspiracy theory!

That's no different than any other draft. Yet there are more live picks than in most recent drafts. Clearly clubs feel they can do more with this draft than in previous ones.

It's not like Gold Coast got the best twelve out of the draft either. There are clearly some players in this draft that they could have signed that they didn't who are better than the ones that they did. For the most part, it looks like they've signed depth players. The spots those kids took in the GC side opened others in junior. IMO, this draft isn't going to suffer at all for not having the GC12.

I would like to apologize for my outburst. Clearly I was the one that was confused about the draft, not you.

All nominations for the National Draft closed at 2PM today.

Also Gold Coast had to make its' Northern Territory and Queensaland Zone selections known today (but only to the AFL).

Who knows when the AFL will let us know.
