Time for an ignore function
MODS, please move if you feel this would be better in the General Forum.
I am a member of other fora and one has as "ignore poster" function.I believe that it is time for that option to be available here on SS. Perhaps it is not possible with this hosting site, but given that we are paid up until the end of the year, perhaps we could look at choosing an alternative hosting service that does have this function (the most important thing of course is that it is safe and does not crash for weeks....)
In general over the years I have had no problem sidestepping the various disputes between posters. Recently much of the clashes between posters have been on the General Forum. I have been involved in some of that (mea culpa), but when I want to get away from it I know that I can come over here to the footy forum and things are ok.
However, there are threads at the moment where one poster is so repetitive in his postings (he averages over twelve posts a day since he joined 4 years ago) that it becomes difficult to follow a thread without reading his rubbish.
I believe that an ignore function would help those of us who would prefer not to have to read his inanity.
Btw I don't find all his views inane, but recently have been finding that, so would simply like to be able to peruse the forum without having the experience polluted for a while.

Why dont you name me unless of course you mean Bambi. Surely your not scared of a warning for starting a thread on another poster.Richter wrote:MODS, please move if you feel this would be better in the General Forum.

I would have said get rid of emoticons. (maybe just keep the popcorn one as a sign of impending danger/hilarity)matrix wrote:and more emoticons
If someone rolled their eyes at something you said in a pub you'd want to clock them. Same on the internet.
And a spell/grammar check. Some of the posts on here border on challenged. Loosers.
Please tell me that last word is a joke and if it is can you please use an emoticon.Saints43 wrote:I would have said get rid of emoticons. (maybe just keep the popcorn one as a sign of impending danger/hilarity)matrix wrote:and more emoticons

The perfect example of a comment that I would like to 'like'.plugger66 wrote:Please tell me that last word is a joke and if it is can you please use an emoticon.Saints43 wrote:I would have said get rid of emoticons. Now I have to make a whole post and clog the thread just to express that I think this is funny.

True but we can't stop supporters of other clubs coming in can we?matrix wrote:+1
and also, you have to be a member and logged in to view
This part of the forum is for ST KILDA supporters. Obviously I haven't read ALL the rules but we should be able to block people like budge who has OUTED himself as a 'Pies supporter.
How do we know some of the people on here aren't journos trying to provoke reactions they can use to fill column space ("Sources close to the club have said...")?
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

Of course. Like using an emoticon when complaining about emoticons. Well picked up. And as requested:plugger66 wrote:Please tell me that last word is a joke and if it is can you please use an emoticon.Saints43 wrote:I would have said get rid of emoticons. The ignore function sounds good. I'll look into it and see what other options we can get.
I've afoot thinking about ways we can get the site up with the times and I've been thinking maybe some sort of Facebook and Twitter integration. I have seen other forums adopt these so it's definitely possible.
Would love to try and use this as a way for The supporters to better communicate with the club.
This would also open up saintsational to a wider range of fans.
AS for opposition supporters I think the policy will remain as long as they are respectful they are welcome.
I'm a bit busy at the moment with work but keep there ideas coming and I will bring them up on the mods board.

The club will never officially recognise us, as we sometimes are quite caustic about what the club is doing. To align more closely with the club will cause us to be more guarded about what we say. Don't worry, the club does read this forum and takes notice of what is said.Armoooo wrote:Would love to try and use this as a way for The supporters to better communicate with the club.

Publicity will attract more fans to the site. Our own hats, scarfs, badges, TShirts and Bumper Stickers are the way to go.
And as for opposition supporters being respectful? How long do we have to put up with that renown Filth supporter Johnpeterbudgefanclub trolling our board? Who's drinks bill is he picking up so he can remain on here and crap on our doorstep?
Australia...... Live it like we stole it....... Because we did.
jpbfc is a perfect example of how an 'ignore' function would work well. I generally enjoy reading his posts so would be happy to continue seeing his posts on the threads, but GO doesn't so he wouldn't have to if he chose to 'ignore' him.GrumpyOne wrote:The club will never officially recognise us, as we sometimes are quite caustic about what the club is doing. I didn't mean for us to have any sort of official affiliation I meant having us more connected with social networks would allow us to hear from more fans. There are so many lurkers on this site and more social integration would make it easier for them to have a say every now and then.GrumpyOne wrote:The club will never officially recognise us, as we sometimes are quite caustic about what the club is doing. I was thinking about our clash jumper for example. I am planning on having another jumper design contest soon and then put it up for vote to see which is the most popular and then we could let the club know the results. This way we don't have to pay a designer and we'd get a jumper made by the fans for The fans.
This would also open up the door for things like slogan competitions and banner comps we could reach a bigger audience and encourage people to take part in fan initiatives such as eastern's scarf idea.
Things like tops, hats, bumper stickers are a great idea.
I've also been thinking about a way where we can get some money coming into the site to not only support the site but have some extra come in so that we can do things like buy some reserved seats and raffle them off every week or have them as prize competitions
I would also love for The saintsational player of the year to have an actual trophy to be presented by a forum member at the best and fairest night.
SOme of my ideas are pipe dreams but some are real possibilities if there is enough interest.
I'm finishing some temp work in a couple of weeks and when I'm done I'm going to look into trying to initiate some of these things. WOuld anybody be interested in these sorts of things?
I think this site has a lot of potential to expand and interact with the club a lot more. I think we could be The voice of the supporters.

About time someone associated with the management of the site showed some get up and go..Armoooo wrote:I didn't mean for us to have any sort of official affiliation I meant having us more connected with social networks would allow us to hear from more fans. Totally agree an Ignore function would be a great addition. SAdly though I think a few people enjoy singling out other certain other posters to sledge no matter what the topic, so perhaps as well as voluntary it should/could be used by the mods in place of a suspension, not over-rideable by the posters concerned...and in place til the people concerned agree to act their age
Armoooo..great post and excellent initiatives
