Haven't seen the Geelong team but I would expect they are likely to only go with one ruckman and use Hawkins as their second ruck - Blake should be able to handle him.plugger66 wrote:Please take no notice of where they are picked. Only one ruckman. Blake will have to back up Ben.lurker#134 wrote:Raffattack up forward. Interesting.

Its only round 1! Bit early to make these sorts of complaints isn't it? Still plenty of chances for the new boys to get a crack.St Chris wrote:Same old, same old......

Fforgive me for over-simplifying but Gamble better be a 10-goal a game player to make up the difference on the Pies!

Peake had a s*** couple of GFs but did alright against Geelong from memory.
He is becoming the new whipping boy this season, I hope he gets that little bit of improvement and he will be a handy second tier player at worst.
I'm pleased to see Armo get a starting gig, Steven gave him a spot, he was good against the cats last year- I wonder who put sleeping tablets in their beer?

I agree...we haven't been able to go all the way with that lot 2 years running but that's irrelevant. Ross wants to give them all another go....St Chris wrote:Same old, same old......

hopefully the team evolves as the season does....

Forward line looks suspiciously like Kick It Too Roo. And Ryan. Would have liked a Stanley type in there.
Looks to me like a team of a tagger, 1.5 rucks, a couple of forwards and a chite load of mids. Let's hope they're fit!
As for bench, no way Gwilt Demp or Ray will be the sub for mine. All will be needed down back/on a wing at some stage, as Blake/Gilbert/Raph drift around the ground.
So it looks like for Ross's first go at the SUB rule, he's elected to bring in PACE over versatility.
Run Brett Run!
Other thought is Dempster sub for Baker. Protect the older players, tell Bakes to go hard for a half then take him off. But that would seem very defensive.

Disappointed to see Peake in the side, he had an awesome prelim, but his two GF's were just embarrassing. Would much rather see a youngster, it's a shame Ledger got injured or he would probably have played. Steven should have been playing, were it not for his stupidity, Rhys would have at least been thereabouts...
Not a bad side to start out with, it still looks like a top 4 team with guys like Gardiner, Kosi, Schneider, Stanley, Steven and a couple of our other promising youngsters,

But round one is a chance to make a statement. To say this is the way we're going to go this year. That it's not just going to be the same old stuff that left us short the past two years.saintlee wrote:Its only round 1! Bit early to make these sorts of complaints isn't it? I was hoping that statement would not be as uninspiring as this. If we're not bold, we have as much chance of winning this year's premiership as we do of going to the moon on our end of season trip.

Why does it have to be Round 1? Why not give some of the youngsters a go a bit later, when we're not playing a hard-bodied team like Geelong?AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:But round one is a chance to make a statement. I think some people expected too much change too soon. RL has been extremely conservative in team selections since day 1. Can't see him changing that philosophy any time soon.
