Money in the cupboard

Post: # 1088793Post Cairnsman »

In RL's post match presser last night he said the club needed to "look in the cupboard" to see if there was any money for a tall marking forward.

What was he on about?

They keep the money in a cupboard. If there's any left he'd like to buy a specific type of player.

Hope that helps.

Players that commanded high salaries in 90/10 when we were good aren't worth as much now and need to face the reality of a pay cut at next contract negotiations.

Yes we may have some tall marking fowards, but I think Ross is actually after a GOOD tall marking foward.

And maybe Ross is dropping a subtle, or not so subtle, hint to those tall marking forwards that the time is nigh and they better start putting their hands up

There should be plenty of money in the cupboard next year !!!!! Lets face it , our best players are probably being overpayed at the minute and i reckon jack stephens is the only one who is showing enough improvement to warrant an increase on his contract . Also we should free up a bit of money with likely retirements

Yep. Salary cap not an issue even though we have managed to keep all our guns. I don't reckon RL was being droll either when he said: "give me a call buddy"....

The cupboard is next to the filing cabinet full of Brian Waldon's secrets.

Make over $200 thousand for a 3 or more games in Hobart next year there is a big marking forward and some.

OR make our new seaford home ground like Geelong and play the interstaters. We might even make money instead of loose like at Edihad.
Build enough seating for 35- 40 thousand, and make all the game reciets, advertising, sponcership, and have a home ground advantage win win situration.

Taylor Walker anyone? I think he could be a potential Coleman medallist in a forward line with Roo, Milne and Schneider.

Don't get your hopes up even if buddy is out of contract we have no chance of getting him.

I think there's some confusion over the expression "money in the cupboard"

We could make an extra $10 million and still wouldn't be able to pay the players any more than we currently do.

So we already have the money, just need the space in the cap.

It would depend on when Jake Stefans contract is up and the same with other players. Kosi got 2 years last year, I doubt he is going to take a drop in pay.

I think the Club should make sure players like Armytage, Ben Macintosh and Jock Steven are looked after, and look to trade a few other players who still have market currency.
