Best first game performance?
Watching "on the couch" the other night has made me post this topic. Sheehan quickly commented that Carl Ditterich's first game was the best first performance he had ever seen. He then commented to Healey and Riccuto that they were not old enough to have seen it - nor was I. When my Dad was alive he said to me Big Carl's first game was the best first game he had ever seen a young player produce.
Dad worked at the Club on game days, at the Junction Street and then at Linton Street on the South Road turnstyle. He had many stories about the players, but a good one about Big Carl. The players had been told only to enter the ground through the members entrance and one day carl was running late. Dad spotted him running through the car park, coming towards his turnstyle and quickly told Carl that he could not come through - Carl just charged on and hurdled the turnstyle.
Who do you think has been our best first game performer?

I totally agree with you Dad. Carl was by far the best first ame I have seen. He was all over the ground. One minute he was on the back line and then he popped up on the forward line, marking every ball. In some ways it could of been a comedy. We were fortunate to have Carl play for us. Great first game and I will never forget it.

Hilarious plugger....
11 in you first game is not too bad, ten kicks....with his leg, good enough to get him a gig in a QF interstate.....in his SECOND game...must have been good....ill ask my collegues what they thought of it, i reckon they tuned in..
V adelaide in game 2
Where he got 18 and two goals.....which is the game i was obviously referring to....but you knew tnat, didnt you
If your miserable aim is to try and prove me wrong (a complete stranger) at every turn.....you are sad, and surely lonely.....get a life.

I could ask you to name the 156 players who performed better on debut but I am aware a Doctors time is valuableDr Spaceman wrote:Bit unfair on Winbanks there tony.tony74 wrote:Big Carl no. 1
David Winbanks no. 4532 ( apologies if he reads this! )
I was at that game myself and it wasn't that bad!
I have him at no. 4376.
Having said that, I appreciate we all view things differently and, as always, I respect your opinion

Have no idea of the possies, but I remember seeing both Graham Gellie and Peter Keils first games and thinking we had something special. Both went on to win the B&F in their first season IIRC??
Milan Faletic kicked 6 on debut vs Footscray but he was a established SANFL player already

Milan Faletic's 5.5 in his first game was pretty good.
Had the advantage of course of being a bit older.
Faletic also had the distinction of having one of the best half-games ever for the Saints.
Came off the bench to play the second half and racked up 28 disposals if IIRC against Melbourne.
Odd thing was that I could never understand was that they never played him as a ruck rover again.

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
