Rise of Ahmed Saad

Post: # 1167420Post shmic_s »

Interesting to read the author thinks that he could also play off half back.

The rise of Ahmed Saad from suburban footballer to St Kilda player has been as rapid as it has been unconventional.

Quick off the mark and with precise kicking skills, he can play both ends of the ground and it just might be as a running half-back that Saad will make his name with the Saints.

Just cant wait for this guy to get amongst it. Real X factor.

Should be playing in front of goal or half forward.

Yes, forward is the spot we need some extra zing. I hope that Saints supporters don't talk of him as a champion just yet, raising expectations before he is capable of delivering.

Looking forward to seeing him develop.

What like walsh who we talked up so much we got draft picks for the new Setanta? I just hope we get him near goal as he is just exciting to watch because of his speed.

expect him to be atleast as good as Cyril was in his first year, if not better.

If not then he's gone.

In all seriousness though, from what I've seen of Saad he does play a lot like Cyril, so I expect some games in 2012 where he looks great and others where he doesn't get a sniff. He'll be very up and down for a long time, I hope Scotty gives him an extended run at it, even if he has a couple of quiet weeks in a row.

And from all reports he apppies great defensive pressure, so as long as he's doing that then he should hold his spot. Getting the ball and kicking goals is just gravy.

He can play Armo's role, and Armo can play the role he should of been playing.

one thing is sure
the HBF is the esaiest position on the ground and we need to make sure the guys we have playing there don't have obvious defencies in their games...
really good disposal, accountability, speed and run are prerequisites
good marking ability is a bonus

For that reason I dunno if Gilbert cuts it

Perhaps Ray?

Don't forget that:

* Watters was the Pie's Defensive Coach.

* that Leon was moved to the BP in this year and went well.

Yep I'd be pretty keen to see a shake up for some of our guys that are stagnating a bit.

No, we don't want him to play a shut down forward role. Unlike Armo he has pace and we want him to play an attacking role.

The role that gave us one win in the first 8 rounds. I still dont know what our coach was thinking by changing things up after such a promising start to the year.

When did I say we lost 7 games? I said we won one after 8 rounds.

He didn't make a mistake and was no worse than anyone else. Got through it without getting injured which was a bonus.

I noticed. You said eight rounds rather than seven games. It's misleading. We had lost five up to that point, which wasn't exactly Armo's fault anyway. There's no reason we can't win with him in the middle.

I am actually sure we can win with Armo in the middle but it is this re writing of history where mosts things RL did this year and in previous years is now seen to be wrong. No one on here can say the move of Armo going forward didnt result in us improving. Could have been coincidence or could have been that Jack was better for the team in the middle and Armo was better for the team as a HFF.

I think it had more to do with the 'meeting' the players had timing wise than any positional moves.

I like the look of the Marquis - can he play in the middle as well? Seems to have some pace and reasonable body size.

Of course it was. There is actually no point of a coach. Just meet all the time. Talk about some people changing their opinion of a coach after they leave.

Only if you are in it. Tugger. Now that is truly funny. You come across as a person who would be a real hoot to go out with.
