Some pretty clear delistings after mid-year

Post: # 1233798Post BigMart »

As it stands I reckon the following players need to show something, because on this seasons form, they are ordinary

1. B.Peake..... Not difficult, at 29 and cruising in the magoos.

2. D.Polo...... Barely standard

3. S.Crocker..... Simply lacks the body and physicality to play even VFL

4. N.Winmar..... Just not very good, fragile body

5. D.Archer...... Has really dropped off, Wilkes is a better version

6. C.Shenton..... Played his best game last week, but really has struggled to get a kick

Senior players to be evaluated for their worth in 2013
S.Milne, J.Blake, R.Clarke

Kosi may have a lesser role as a back up tall...
Lenny will make his own call

Trade Possibilities IMO
Goddard, Gilbert

Positives this year
Minchington, Dunnell, Curran, Simpkin, Ferguson, Newnes, Wilkes, Siposs, Milera, Saad

Would not suprise me to see Blake go on unless we can gt a ready made ruckman. I know he is a defender but he was handy when Stanley and McEvoy went down. I also thought Milne had signed for another season.
Polo will hang on as a backup
The good thing about the next draft is Watters will really be able to make some changes to the list to continue the renewal process and really make the team his.

How is Wilkes a positive, I still haven't got over his last senior game.

All of those 6 list cloggers you've memtioned could and probably should be dumped at seasons end....unless the Gold Coast took them as a package for a 2nd round draft pick...

Has been excellent as a back up tall fwd at sandy, haven't put a foot wrong.... Has done what AFL standard players should do in the VFL - Dominated... Archer does not do this, he barely gets a kick?

Played two games at StK and kicked 3 in one as a fwd

If players continue to go on... How are we getting better as a team???

Would you rather Simpkin or Blake playing as a defender in 2013, Stanley or Blake as a #2 Ruckman??

Would GWS/GC be interested in a trade or picks for Peake/Polo?

GC might be interested in either Polo or Peake in exchange for one of their youngsters they feel has not made it, but how would that help the Saints?

The young player(s) would flourish surrounded by better players?

they may be homesick, slower to develop, surpassed by quicker developing players, be surrounded by similar types. There are always bargains out there -worth doing some research.

i gotta say BM, most of what your post is utter shite, but i think youve hit the nail on the head.

great post!!!!

only thing i would say is winmar is contracted until the end of next year, which tells me he has 2 years to show something (this year included). if he continues on this path he will be delisted next year. the only thing i could see them doing is putting him on the rookie list, but i dont know if you are allowed to do this contract wise.

i would add the following to the list of possible trades:
- gram
- ray
- montagna

but they will only be traded if we are getting the better side of the deal by a decent margin.

goddard will decide what path we will go down with him. club will not budge on the offer they have given him, which is a good thing IMO

Gilbert must be traded. Shop Gram, Ray, Clarke, Peake etc. for draft picks.

Pretty spot on here BM I reckon. Maybe you could sneak Ross and Markworth on the positive list. But apart from that ur on the money.

I wonder if Ray could be traded? He is a very good player and I rate him - so youd think he might want to go somewhere for more opportunity? Id like to keep him if we can.
And maybe the grambulance will have to take a pay cut and look for a trade?
Seems Winmar is really struggling and for some reason is on a long contract - so that is an issue for us.

Because he's a forward, not a defender - and he played in the back half in the game you mentioned. remember when blight kept playing Barry Hall down back in 2001? Same thing. Wilkes can play, but as a forward, and with Roo and Kosi both 29 we need some back up and fast.

You do realize that's you perception yeah???? Please don't be so arrogant as to cast judgement on others behalf, so add an IMO

So you've added two senior players who are averaging well over 20 a game in the seniors in 2012, one has been a dual All Australian and twice runner up B&F and statistically is better than Goddard over their careers.... The other is also a runner up B&F and is having a good season.... Delist them, yes.... I think not

And you reckon I speak s***..... ??

Not sure what Faz has done wrong this year?? He should look elsewhere???

Good accurate post
I'd also be re-evaluating gram and snides .
I wonder if bellchambers of the bombers will be available ?

Why didnt you start the the thread title with IMO instead of pretty clear delistings this yeaR. Surely that is a real arrogant start to a topic. And why dont you quote the person you are writing to. Arrogant. Pfft.

I would have gram as a possible trade also, look at
Giles from GWS
Silvani from Freo
Bellchambers from Dons
Cameron from GWS

If BJ goes as a play for beams

Other than that trade for good picks plus elevation of dunell and addition of cockie

I'm still amazed at how unpopular Milne is right now. I know he's on the wrong side of 30, which makes him uncool, but he's getting 4-6 shots on goal each week playing on the opposition's best small defender. I think he can play on for a long time and don't see why we'd want anything else. I'll be surprised if Hayes decides to retire. Blake could go either way at this point.

A lot of the guys being put up for trade in this thread have no value either. Nobody is going to give up anything of value for the likes of Clarke, Gram or Joey. Gilbert might have some value, but I don't think we're moving him either. The only question is Goddard. Either he leaves and we get compo or he stays. He's not going to be traded.

I disagree with the value in gram and joey. They are good trades for a player wanting to come home for any club especially joey. Acing said that though Joey isn't going anywhere

Hi Mart, my perception and opinion is that I enjoy reading your posts, and I share the majority of your player-related assessments. (The latter BTW, should be a cause of concern for you... )

One request though, Mart, could you puh-leez hit the 'Quote' button so that it's clearer which post/s you are referring to? I get confued easily. Ta. :)

They're both 28 and impending free agents. I doubt we're going to sign and trade them. Even if we did, nobody is going to give up an early pick in a good draft for players in that age bracket. They're worth second round picks at best and once you factor in compo picks, that would mean a pick in the 25-40 range. We're better off keeping them - which is exactly what I expect we'll do.

Surely you don't seriously think we have any chance of getting Giles, Cameron or Beams? I mean, really?

Bellchambers is a slight chance, although I reckon Essendon rate him over Hille, and Silvagni is a good possibility of him being interested in a move.
