This Guy (Rossy) can coach

Post: # 1256236Post mohannair »

No matter what we say abt. his loyalty, one thing is sure that he can coach to get the best out of the individual.

Was watching Freo v/s North & (had tipped North) the way Ross shut down Petrie & Boomer was amazing.

Remembered the last time when we beat the Kangas & I was bit worried at 3/4 time & then the way we blasted them after that. There was a similarity at todays game.

Apparently this is just Freos second win without Pavlich.

Though I hate to say that Rossy is a great coach but it is a fact.

The down side is that he never gave our younsters any chance & hence may have falled slightly behind the pack.

Dont tell the one eyed Nimbats on here. He could only coach when he was with us. But now he left, he could never coach.

North are a bunch of front runners. Their game plan won't stand up in pressure games, let alone pressure finals. Ross is an ok coach. Ross is also an average bloke at best.

It seems that you must get a frontal labotomy when you join Freo - so it must have been totally accidental that they nailed the Roos in what was a crucual game for them - now they probably have to play West Coast in Perth. Mind you - meeting Geelong here would not be much better. I wanted Roos to win - who else can I hate least in the 8?

...they had won six in a row......time for a downer...freo just aren't that good....highest ever score away from wa ...and only the second away win without pav......can't put it down to lynin..... along with the team ,he ain't that good

bummer for us though......maybe the roos didn't want to be playing geelong in the first round of the finals...who knows...but they were sh!t all day....

The guy can coach - was amazed at the pressure Dockers put on the Roos (who belted us by 5 goals and Petrie had a field day).

Regardless, in year 1 he's got them into finals, winning big games in melb (I remember Freo as easy beats here under cabbage Mark Harvey) BUT ......when he loses a Pavlich.......a Sandilands and McPharlin will be interesting to see what he does. He's clearly into buying in some big name KPP see Cloke interest. I dont buy the whole "he has a better list than St Kilda" theory though.......I reckon freo got some front runners who will be exposed and Lyon's game plan against a hot, skilled side is still suspect eg if hawks get going I cant see them shutting them down.

All that said, he can coach.

How many flags has Lyon won as a coach, as opposed to nearly won, that's normally a good measuring stick...

agree, he has a great footy brain...

a great mind for strategy, but his downside is and was that he doesn't foster talent....

i, personally, wanted freo to crash and burn, but hats off to him, he has made it work over there...

Well, apparently "experts" on the teli disagree - as they have won four games in Melb - for the first time or something - and this was without Pav - whatever - must have been the umps or some other random factor that they are in and we are out - and their win over us killed our season . f***ck. Not happy with any of this.

He can coach really well.

Doesn't draft that well. Does not like players under 24.

And to top that off he really is just a s*** bloke.

He is supposed to be a lovely guy if he lets you inside his bubble.

Just not so great if you're outside of it.

Creepy eyes though.

I met him with my son at a St Kilda family day at the Kars St Oval and found him to be a totally likeable guy. I don't think he'd take any nonsense from people who want to pot him, but honestly, would you respect anyone who did?

Yep

He's a good short term coach but doesnt have the patience for young player development. That's why he went West wher the development part had been done by Mark Harvey. Admittedly like Roos, he achieves well with older "cattle".

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

lost plenty of assistants, didn't speak to the guys at sandy. He was pretty good at choosing investments as well. I think Luke ball quite liked him, same with Jayden Attard that got dumped after being a very good player then did a knee and got delisted. He might have ben a good coach but plenty were less than impressed including some of the new freo guys who are already a little put out.

He's not a piece of cr@p, he's a so and so of a bloke though, I would suggest many of the coaches are.
First hand account of his dealings with at least one assistant coach isn't great.
Who really cares though, he's not supposed to be our mate.

Worth remembering that Freo finished 6th in 2010.

Had a bad 2011 due to injury.

Were having a real bad 2012 due to injury too.

Lyon has done extremely well to get the Dockers playing the quality stuff they delivered away from home today.

I thought it would take him a couple of seasons to get them into the finals : unlike most posters on here, who thought it would never happen because Freo are a crap team and Lyon is a crap coach.

He got there in one season. Well done to him.
