Re: If Essendon lose their points...
The journos have already talked about it- it would be a massive embarrassment for them so I doubt they would let it slip- although the boss is away so the AFL staff will be doing footy tipping and looking up internet porn for a few weeks and won't get much done.

Re: If Essendon lose their points...
I'm loving the whole circus.
Not sure if it's because it shows so clearly how dysfunctional and bumbling the fools at AFL house are, or if it's because it's not the Saints this time.
Either way, it's classic to watch.

Drug cheats do not get rewarded. So will be no chance, and moreso here as the EFC would seem to have been most active in the cheating, and not just the players..
If they did lose 24 players for 2 years, the AFL may make a concession that the players may not have to be delisted, while allowing new players to be drafted (ie will have more on their list than normal for 2 years).
However like when the Blues got done for cheating, any picks required to top up their list would just be late picks at the end.

Re: If Essendon lose their points...
It's farcical really isn't it.
WADA will ban players, which means that Essendon will need to run to the AFL for serious help.
So the AFL will help them.
But then the AFL will punish them for whatever number of things the AFL deem them to have done wrong.
Then Essendon will need help again.
So the AFL will give it to them.
So you get a club that has done the wrong thing and gets punished - but the punishment can't be anything that can damage the club too much.
Farcical situation.

Melbourne got fined $500,000 for not tanking…
Then they couldn't afford to payout a coach they sacked half way through a 3 year deal…
So not only did they AFL pay for Neeld, but they will kick in 3 million for their next coach… plus will probably give another priority pick, to a team that deliberately threw games to cheat the system.
Good set-up.

they might lose all low draft picks with premiership points...rodgerfox wrote:...do they get No. 1 in the draft?
With the bumbling fools down at AFL house, I would not at all be surprised if they let that occur!

Well people com-plain that they only care about the big clubs. At least it shows the current administration cares for the smaller clubs and thats a good thing considering where we sit.

I know!
Imagine if they ever made an interstate team travel to Melbourne to play a home prelim cause of a botched contract with the MCC. Oh wait....

I loved his comment on Evans being a man of integrity.
Does this mean he's discovered his coach lacks any integrity?
And isn't the new chairman of Essendon, the same man who had to deny last year that Toll was offering employment as part of the contract to attract Goddard to Essendon and then quickly had to back peddle qhen the story became public.
I never thought the offer was to be made to Goddard, but family members possibly in search of a job.
Re: If Essendon lose their points...
I'd rather they lost draft picks for the next two years, the first/second/third rounders.... Carlton coped it with the Salary Cap stuff and I'd say Essendons is worse bringing the entire game into disrepute.

Re: If Essendon lose their points...
If more than 2 of their players are found guilty of a doping infraction it is quite possible that there WILL NOT BE AN ESSENDON IN THE COMPETITION in 2014 or 2015. We all need to remember that WADA stands for WORLD ANTI DOPING AUTHORITY, and as such have WORLD standards to uphold !!rodgerfox wrote:...do they get No. 1 in the draft?

Re: If Essendon lose their points...
If the dons lose all their points I don't think it means that they get first pick in the draft. If they are allowed any picks at all then it would HAVE to go on their finishing position before any points are stripped which I think is unlikely - just a great big fine and maybe loss of draft picks for a couple of years would be my opinion fwiw.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

You'd think by passing a bowler hat around for donations in the old tea rooms of the Melbourne Club would suffice in bailing them out, wouldn't you? Melbourne FC must be the stingiest supporters.Greg T wrote:dragit wrote:Pretty funny isn't it…rodgerfox wrote:It's farcical really isn't it.
