I have written off 2014 and hope the season's focus is now on team development - not sure we can lock in first or second draft pick just yet though

oh i think you can.. a realist would have us finishing with the wooden spoon...i'm hoping for 17th spot.....we have the hardest draw of any of the 18 clubs from here on...can't realistically see us winning another game....
....hope i'm wrong...

Jeez they have to do something about this draft system where the advantage of finishing bottom is so huge that fans want it to happen. The wooden spoon used to be a humiliation now its close to paradise. A random lottery system for finishing bottom 4 perhaps. With us, Brisbane, Bulldogs, Carlton, Melbourne all desperate for a big forward tell me ladder position won't come into some sort of consideration towards the end of the year - resting players, early operations, playing youngsters etc. The end of year joke about the "No. 1 draft pick" cup will come up again. Its insidious - it almost destroyed Melbourne.
Re: pick 1 or 2 in draft pretty much a certaintly
yep...but as you said...the prize is so great...only way to rise up the ladder........how would we have been without roo.......no grand final appearances at all...i suspect.....Bluthy wrote:Jeez they have to do something about this draft system where the advantage of finishing bottom is so huge that fans want it to happen. So by that logic we should forfeit the rest of the season and have the team go on its end of season trip already?stinger wrote:lions and giants now on two wins each and set to play one another in two weeks time......

A Mad Monday in the middle of winter would actually be sensible and cost effective.Sainternist wrote:So by that logic we should forfeit the rest of the season and have the team go on its end of season trip already?stinger wrote:lions and giants now on two wins each and set to play one another in two weeks time......

Bit early
I still think 2nd or 3rd pick most likely.
2015 we could get pick 1 though.

Only thing that could save us from 18th next season is a really good run with injuries.

Draft picks could be based off a 'three year ladder.'

You'd still get teams selectively tanking to land 16th then.Principle of Q'uo wrote:... how about

Maybe just ballot the bottom 4 each year.
