Shuey attempting to spoil

Post: # 1474163Post kosifantutti »

Shuey attracted scrutiny for flattening St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt during Sunday's match at Etihad Stadium.

The MRP found that, "Shuey makes contact to the back of his opponent and Riewoldt falls heavily.

"A free kick was paid at the time for the push and it was the view of the panel that Shuey was seeking to spoil and his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances."

Clearly, the worst "spoil" in history. Weak.

Gutless piece of defending. MRP should be making an example out of Shuey in an attempt to have this sort of thing banished from the game.

Regardless of how much (or little) malice there was, it was a careless act putting an opponent's safety at risk.

Here's a replay of it http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-06-22/ ... d-by-shuey

In Rugby if you do that to someone in the air it is a sending off offence. It will take someone to be badly hurt for that to change sadly in AFL.

The MRP can't get into a player's head to formulate a valid opinion on "intent"
Simply look at the action and the result.
Result was a very, very bad look for footy and would stick in a mother's mind with greater clarity than, say, the Viney/Lynch bump.

I am certain that had it been the gorilla from the filth (Cloke), fat Eddie would be screaming until the MRP got locked in jail.

In basketball you get reported for tunneling . Absolute disgrace by MRP again and a very dangerous action which again goes unpunished. If that is a spoil attempt thenShuey is the worst spoiler in the game

To be consistent, the MRP is waiting for a saints player to tunnel before making an example of it.

Last year they let Sydney do it against us. They don't want to discourage Sydney from being able to do it so regulating it would be not very constructive.

On the Saints as an example thing, last years season started with two new rules named the Saad rule and the Sam Fisher rule by the AFL. It is bizarre that our club was scrutinised to the point that they needed to individualise our players to discourage it. Sam's was some kind of ability to hold down taller players trying to mark and Saad because the boss didn't like his long run ups. Sydney obviously practice tunnelling and WCE duck but that's beyond scrutiny???

Shuey and Gaff are outside jibs with little courage. Be thankfull we are not forced to cheer for them. Those 2 and Crippa do ballet on Wednesday nights.

Never a more obvious example of tunneling.
Our game is losing credibility rapidly.
Our rules and E'dope are shining examples.

I am furious with this non decision by the mrp. Tunneling is an absolute blight on the game and one day someone will not walk away from an incident like this. It is irrelevant the intent (trying to spoil or not), the action is reckless and should be judged as such.

360 highlighted the non decision as a bad precedent

Mike Sheahan ("On The Couch") indicated that he was happy Shuey got off with the MRP but the discussion turned to fears for Roo's health with some big knocks (including the Shuey incident)- go figure. Very ordinary decision in my view.

It's really the definition of tunneling… could be used in the rules DVD to show what you can't get away with.

Obviously trying to contest the mark. Absolute disgrace that they even commented on it. If they hadn't commented we'd assume they missed it. They didn't miss it, they just chose to be idiots!

These types of things need to be cut right out of the game 'before" someone gets seriously injured.

Not sure about this, but was a "50 mtrs" penalty available? That would have indicated what the Umpire thought of the incident and perhaps the MRP may have taken a closer look.

No he cant pay that unless the player marks it first. A fifty is basically a free after another decision has been paid.

The irony here is that Rhys Stanley had a 50 paid against him for a push in the back which came before the ball got to the player, was it against Carlton? Hampson perhaps?

Well the club should ask if that's acceptable, if it is then we can use it our play, the player was going to mark it anyway, so why not make him earn it. Rules are rules aren't they?

Joel Bowden explains it here. Riewoldt jumped too high.

About 5 minutes in.

Wow!
I don't believe that they (the MRP) actually believe that.
Shuey's arms were nowhere near the footy.
One was wrapped around Roo and the other was flush in his lower back.

As for the nonsense of Roo 'jumping too high'

The tunnel attempt and resulting fall actually put Roo off his game a bit from then on, and could have caused a very serious injury- if a Saint player had done exactly the same to a WCE (or any other interstate) player, then the Saint player would now be suspended as we all would be aware. I'm sure the club just meekly sat on their hands about it.

If that is the quality of the assessment process by the MRP then it needs a serious overhaul.
