2001 Draft....What if?

Post: # 1521665Post yltnias »

2001, what a phenomenal draft.
Drafted Ball.....could have drafted Judd
Drafted Xman.....could have drafted Bartel
Drafted Nic D
Drafted Goose Maguire....could have drafted Stevie J
Drafted Montagna
Drafted Josh Houlihan.....could have drafted Dane Swan or Paul Salmon
Also, Aaron Rogers taken at 26 turned out to be a pretty decent QB for Green Bay!

Paul Salmon wasn't a bad tall taken after Pick 10.

Read between the lines.
The point is, the gun players aren't always in round 1, a bit of luck can net a gun not matter where they are drafted, as long as they are developed well. Hawthorn have a great system and the likes of Sam Mitchel taken at 37? is testament. Been there and seen it personally.

We are products of our past but we don't have to be prisoners of it... it is very easy to have the benefit of hindsight it makes geniuses of us all...

Salmon was 37! As far as I remember he was only ever going back to Essendon.

Surely Brian Lake was the one we should have taken ahead of Houlihan? Or Sandilands or Matty Boyd, who were taken in the rookie draft.

What if would mean even our side would win every single flag every single year even with poor picks. 2001 was a great draft for us. Mistakes were made in it but it was very helpful in us making finals for many years.
