Bottom 4 or Bottom 10? Which is it.

Post: # 1602666Post Locals322 »

Which is it?

The three teams we are better than

-Essendon
-Carlton
-Brisbane

(Melbourne) We lost to them but I still think we're better
(Gold Coast) Can we rely on them to under perform again?

So 13th is best case scenario...

We are certain to get a top five draft pick but the only question is who do we give it to

This is a really positive post. Sometimes there are teams that unexpectedly crash and burn like GC last year. Last year we exceeded ladder expectations by 5 spots. Can we at least play one game before we throw in the white towel?

If w get Hurley, Hocking or Heppell it might be worth it!
Apparently all Essendon suspended players will be free agents regardless of contracts.

Why give a dp away for a DFA?

We are guaranteed a top 6 draft pick. Let's use it in the draft on a gun kid and then try and get a FA for free on top of that.

You bet, providing he's fit. There's no guarantees with our first pick and if it fails how many years would it put us behind? JOM would make a lot of difference to our midfield structure and lets not forget Joey wont go on forever as much as he'd like to.

To top it off if we can score a top level FA even better. Maybe a close look at the Bombers fire sale, Carlisle still have any mates there? Heppell anyone?

A lot of water under the bridge to go yet, but if we managed it we'd be playing finals in no time

Perhaps I'm dreaming but at some stage we'll need to do more at chasing some top end talent, Carlisle was a start and I'd rather not wait until Armo is the other side of 30

we're chasing our tails. Talk is about getting absolute guns to replace montagna, roo, dempster, fisher. On top of that we need future champions that can match the guns we have lost since last a top team - i.e. goddard, dal santo, milne, hayes, as well as a deep list to turn the team into premiership contenders. Hopefully we have a few already in development, but we are still many short. Aside from Billings and possibly Lonie, Dunstan, and Bruce, no recent addition has really looked capable of becoming elite. Fingers crossed on McCartin and Goddard - we need them to happen. We also need more high picks or great trades - many more.

Where we finish is fundamentally irrelevant, with the exception of which draft picks we get. We are certainly not a Premiership or Top 4 contender, so what's the point of playing finals. Even if we made the finals on the back of great seasons from our veterans, would that be a successful season?

IMO Success this year means an overall improvement in the way we play from last year and importantly continued improvement in our young players. That doesn't necessarily translate to a better win loss ratio.

I actually think Brisbane have an ok list.
No certainties we will finish ahead of them. Will come down to injuries. They are young - even younger than us. But they are building an ok squad.

We will probably give them pick 4 for Yestin Eades.

What happened to our last 5 pick. Thought we used it on Carlisle and Gresham

It was pick 5 and our second rounder for Jake and Jade. Don't rewrite history. It was basically pick 5 for Carlisle with a little bump up in our second rounder (and we don't know if Gresham would have kept slipping anyway and come through to us at our pre-trade second round slot - little guys are not in fashion)
