Kick it to Nick

Post: # 1610881Post SainterK »

Last new thread from me today...promise

They kicked it to the best option, ALL day, and it wasn't always Nick

Excellent, refreshing, about time....all that.

Why though?

Lost on me in the win, but what changed today?

Maturity?

Roo was up the ground more?

Kids not having the "kick it to Roo" mentality so engrained?

Stickers is that good and impacted that much?

Alan said he'd bench anyone who didn't kick it to the best option?

Liked it....replicate it weekly please y'all.

I think one of the reasons for playing Roo up the ground has been that it forces the players to look for other options. Today showed that we have other avenues to goal. And yet Roo still kicks his 3 anyway.

Good post K. I thought we spread it around and looked at the best option regardless. This made us look dangerous.
Melbourne were double teaming Bruce and Roo - result? Membrey had a paddock and kicked 5.

Kicked it to him a few times

He took 14 marks

Or is that just the norm?!

Seriously,
Do we fully understand or appreciate his greatness. His consistency and numbers are remarkable.... If he didn't miss two halves this season he'd be averaging 12 marks a game

Last week was too much kick it to Paddy, although Nick was our only real option.
Hence Paddy managed this week, and Membry left all alone, while Roo and Broos are double teamed.
This team was selected specifically for Melbourne. Great coaching coup!

I liked his goals, one crumb and another on the run in the pocket.

Push him up the ground, works better for all...

No sprays, cause he's the delivery man.

Nobody ever made it being his sidekick, so don't bother trying now.

Paddy and Membrey, let them cement a spot.

Loved seeing he isn't in the top 10 inside 50 targets anymore

The thing is, as forward line seems to work best with Bruce, Paddy and Membrey being the linch pins amongst the goal sneaks.

The problem is that Roo is still pbly the best individual forward we have.

I like having Riewoldt on the wing and either floating into the forward line to snare a mark, or alternating with someone for 10min patches

The perfect link up and gut busting tall midfielder who is ultra damaging when 'resting' forward.

The interchange cap may infact extend Roo's career, no-one can keep up with him all day!

He kicked a couple of beautiful passes on his left foot. Not sure if they were intentional.

Great coaching!
Finally we have a coach who is looking to the future, not the now!

Great day for our key forwards, and we really need to keep playing them all.
As there were multiple times early on when they were all jumping at the same ball, the chemistry got better the longer the game went.

My only concern was we need a Sinclair in and under their feet, as it was far too easy for Essendon to clean it up.

Anyone notice in the last qtr (half way) that Joey ignored Roo and kicked to Hickey who goaled. Then Hickey ran over to Gwilt to give him a spray.
Anyone know what it was about?

Seemed to be something like Gwilt left Tom to cover Roo. And Hickey went out of his way to give it to Gwilty.

Id like to know what Gwilt had said/done prior to set this off.

He is left handed, bounces, handballs, writes, bowls left handed

Only kicks right foot

Exactly like the great man

Nick's passing tonight was superb.
He hit some difficult targets in the midfield and forward line with beautiful precision passes.

I am excited that our newbie forwards - Bruce, Paddy and The Member - all did well whilst Nick was a midfield general.
It looks like becoming a great combination.
