Paul Hudson Gone

Post: # 1633345Post damienc »

Our development coach and coach of Sandringham has quit to pursue "other opportunities."

I kind of figured something was up when his ratings of St Kilda players for Sandy disappeared from the club website.

Maybe he simply got a better offer. But if all was well there would be something from him in the St Kilda website story explaining himself and wishing everyone the best.

Instead, silence.

So I wonder what the real story is?

Another site had him citing "family reasons". Nothing much at all to explain the departure of such a supposedly valued member of the team,

Good luck to him in the future. I dare say he has been quite instrumental in helping to develop the careers of our younger brigade of players.

Paul was very agitated in the box on Sunday

Had at least two big arguments with someone else in the box and there were many heated words

1 win from his last 6 games after being 9/2
Sandy have fallen to bits

Well we could certainly do with a new goal kicking coach. We've been pretty woeful in front of the sticks this year. One of the few negatives.

Do we even have one? There are some thoughts that repetitive practicing kicking for goal can lead up to injuries. Tony is it part of our routine?

Well, if you read mav's diary, it is certainly part of his routine.

really?
VFL games aren't played under a roof at Etihad.
Poor goal kicking could be caused by bitterly cold swirling winds. Don't blame the coach, he can't kick the goals for them
There were several games they could have won, except for missed shots. Swirly winds.

Players can always practice outside of training, just wondering where we stand on it.

Not I haven't read Mav's diary isn't it private? :)

Playing 3 rucks on any given day doesnt help you win

Saints have gone with only 1 ruckman all year, yet Sandy have 3. Dont forget they only have 16 players on the ground vs AFL with 18 players. I'd be seriously pissed off too if I were Hudson.

Didn't 16 on the ground die along with the VFA?

VFA had no wingers. Click on that link and see team selections for Round 21 in the VFL. Try counting the players named on the ground. Won't take long.

Hudson bids farewell to the Zebras
20/09/2016

When the final siren blew at North Port Oval last Saturday, not only did Sandringham’s season come to a close, but so did Paul Hudson’s time as head coach.

Having spent the best part of six years at Trevor Barker Beach Oval, the former AFL forward moves on after two successful seasons.

Taking over as senior coach after four years as an assistant in 2015, Hudson found immediate success – with the Zebras falling a kick shy of a grand final birth.

While the team found success on field, Hudson received personal accolades off it, taking out VFL Coach of the Year in just his first season.

Although results in 2016 fell short of the prior year, Hudson still steered his side into the second week of finals. Through off-field adversity, he rallied his troops to a scintillating first week win and a gallant semi-final performance.

Doubling as a development coach at St Kilda, the final chapter closes on Hudson’s two years at the club.

“I think I said post-game I could nearly write a book on this year,” Hudson said.

“I’ve been an assistant for four years and a senior coach for two, and its had its highs and lows.

“That’s the difficulty of an alignment as well in that situation, but I’ve got more good memories than bad.”

For Hudson, he won’t close the coaching door completely when he walks out of Sandringham for the last time.

“I always said to John Mennie if there is an opportunity maybe to come back and coach I’d definitely look at it,” Hudson said.

“Its just that other things take priority in life at the moment.”

Hudson’s expertise in development was fruitful. Not only did he help Mitch Brown, who was delisted by Geelong in 2014, return to an AFL list in 2015, but Hudson also nurtured a number of future stars.

“I said in there I hope Kade Answerth gets drafted, I hope Joey Fisscher gets the chance to be in an AFL environment,” Hudson said.

“There’s a couple of blokes that have the talent to play AFL footy,

“That’s not neglecting the boys who dug in – Mitch Wilkins who has come across and got his way into the side in the second half of the year, Taylor Grace too.

“All the Sandy boys I was so pleased I could help get them to that level and play at VFL. That’s just as rewarding despite the loss.”

If Hudson had one final message, he’d tell you not to believe everything you hear.

“Despite what national TV people portray as me leaving on the back of what happened, its not true.” Hudson said.

“I made my resignation before all that happened, so people have to be careful about what they say.”

Whoever takes the keys next, Hudson has left big shoes to fill and high expectations for the future.

There's something that someone is not telling us?!

It happened mid-year and obviously came to a head just before finals?!

Team compromised due to selection IMO
