Worst forwardline setup!!!

Post: # 1724912Post chook23 »

There is not one!!!!
Disgraceful game plan and players are shot in the head re their options and then skills are terrible when they hesitate.

It is terrible to watch live at the game

So you just arrive from Mars (its North of Werribee) and are told you win by scoring goals but Saints play Gresham who has proven he can't kick goals forward. Space man says whoever arranged that was a bit foolish. And: what does number 32 do, and is #16 playing for the other side in different colours he kicks to them, doesn't tackle and gives them 50 metres. Complex game. Oh #19 fall over, and over and #15 is so kind to the devil team......

Our set up all over the ground is absolutely s***, I actually pity our key forwards with the delivery they get

Can't understand zone defence. Since when has a piece of grass you are guarding ever kicked a goal. No awareness of oppo players running into forward space like unregistered dogs. Too easy to play against.

Sadly I fear McCartin is a bust. Not the tricks for the modern game. Makes you cry to see the opposition with 3 key forwards who are all mobile and can mark. Like Adelaide with Lynch it means one can play the hit up link man. We have nothing like it.

Our tackling appears weak and ineffectual. Opposition players look caught but break our tackles too easily. Often this puts the next link in the chain off balance as he expects the tackle to stick.

Time now to throw in all the boys. We may lose by 20 a game but by seasons end we need to know who can and can't play at this level and more importantly who wants to go the extra yard at this level.

A few of us suggested a few weeks ago Carlisle to CHF, even though it would leave a fair sized hole in the backline, but there were no takers.

I’ve heard all the stuff about poor delivery, wouldn’t matter if you have Plugger and Carey up there etc, etc. It’s a factor, sure, but I don’t buy it as a total explanation for our abysmal year.

I don’t expect it to get any better until we fix the forward structure. We lack the surety that teams such as North or the Eagles have when their mids look upfield and see Brown or Kennedy.

This isn’t aimed at Paddy btw. He’s a young player who may or may not make it, but he needs help up there.

If it was me I’d implore Carlisle to go to chf, even though he reportedly doesn’t want to play as a forward. If not him, then who?

Maybe Acres. He’s tall enough to play ruck  , maybe he’d give us something

Whilst our inside 50’s are abysmal we aren’t giving our big forwards a chance when we bong long.

We are either kicking over them or on top of them.

It would be nice if we gave them a chance to run and jump at the ball. Not let them stand and let opposing ruck men take easy grabs over the top.

Marshall would be my pick until Bruce returns. I would even consider Marshall then with Bruce at Half Forward moving back to support midfield. This would ensure 2 forwards around the goals. That would be something rather than players looking forward and waiting for players to get forward. We had no forward structure because a lot of the time we haven had players forward. Cant kick goals if your not near them.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Will Marshall make it as an AFL footballer ?

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Marshall's kicking for goal made Billings look good.

Even when the umps gifted him a free in a goal square he calmly slotted his 4th point.
His file needs to be marked "Never play forward".

We need to just bong in short bursts. Bonging on for long lengthy periods is bound to have repercussions

Well I guess he had three shots at goal, which is a start.
