Koby Stevens retires

Post: # 1743831Post parkeysainter »

Sad story but good luck to the guy in life after footy. He will be missed and we did miss him this year.

Due to his concussion from Rd 1.

Its a day of reflection for the ST KFC and its fans.

Really sad - I hope he can shake the lingering effects and can lead a relatively normal life.

Hopefully he can now be an example to other players, to make sure they disclose any issues to the docs.

Poor bloke. Miserable condition...like living your life exhausted and half drunk. Will take a while to recover.
Koby if for any reason you read this, there is some emerging evidence about Heart Rate variabilty training and Neurofeedback improving Concussion recovery.
Check it out.

Sorry to hear this, but it’s only football. Health and Koby’s future has to come first.

Such terribly sad news, but seemed like the only option. I still haven't gotten over seeing him in that interview on On the Mark. Devastating.

I sincerely hope his health recovers quickly, and that there are no lasting side effects.

Thanks Koby for your contribution Koby to our club. You literally put your body on the line. It won't be forgotten.

I don't think the AFL has been on the front foot enough with concussion.
How players who have had multiple concussions (Kosi, Dempster, McCartin and Steven) have been allowed to play without head protection is amazingly stupid.
All midfielders, the most vulnerable because they put their heads into vulnerable positions, must be made to wear head protection.
The law suits will hit the AFL like asbestos and they don't even have the insurance cover.

The AFL needs to have concussion insurance for every individual player.
Then you will get action.
The insurance company would have required McCartin to wear a helmet after his first two concussions.
Now the AFL would be unable to get insurance for him.
He would forced out of the game by lack of insurance.
The AFL would have to compensate the club with a concussion replacement draft pick.

What a tough break for Koby. Here's hoping his future is a healthy one. Also a loss for the team, he really cracked in and IMO was a player that would have been a 200+ gamer. Underrated.

That's bad. And we fans owe a big thank you to Koby for the way he played and dedicated himself to the club.
A tribute game v Dogs would be an excellent gesture.

He was the sort of player we needed in the team, a player with strength, height and grit. He's wearing our jinx.

Really sucks... Hope retiring now means his health is okay in the future.

What a huge blow for the club... I really thought Koby was a vital player. He was fast, accountable and tough. Disposal was on and off but I thought if he could get confidence, he’d up his game.

This will impact us for a long time IMO
