Thoughts on 2019

Post: # 1752830Post Sainter_Dad »

Everyone is saying good riddance to 2108.

But I believe we are in for the same pain next year as well, and I am accepting of it - as long as we are aware it will be a painful year and not sold a top 8 dream.

But the trade off for the members accepting another painful year, has to be that the team is DEVELOPED in the way that they will play in 2020.

Play players in their positions - play the kids - play an attacking style of football.

If all these things happen and we finish dead motherless last - then so be it.

BUT - if they do not happen and we still underperform - then I have a sale on pitchforks and torches planned for last August.

Thoughts on 2019?

Well I wont be dropping nearly 2k on memberships, that is for sure.

At least we can go into it with a realistic expectation this time.

I don't reckon we will make many list changes apart from draft and delistings.

We are the anti-destination.

Unless Richo goes, and we delist and trade ruthlessly, then little will change in 2019. So much needs to be fixed to get a winning team on the track, and a bit of fiddling around the edges won't solve this problem.

After attending more than a dozen 2018 games and watching on the box, I can only conclude we are a basket case. I can't see where the improvement is coming from next year. Our coaching last night seemed non-existent. For example our kick out strategy, it's a short kick to himself then a long bomb to the members wing and hope like hell we can crumb. Jake running around the back line not knowing where and what to do until he finally moves onto Brown to help out. A forward line with little idea where to lead and create space. It's depressing to watch and has been all year. Under Richo's coaching since 2014 nearly 70% of our losses have been by 5 goals or more. We give up the battle too easily. Injuries this year and youth on the list aren't the real problem. We haven't developed the talent at our disposal and have recruited poorly. No more quick fixes Saints.

Has to be massive internal improvement, some good young ones coming through but they wont impact just yet. The players that everyone overrates on here must prove in 2019 that they are genuine A grade players. A couple of good players to come back in especially Roberton will make some difference as will Bruce if he can hold onto his marks and kick straight. Game plan is woeful as is the coach and thats a problem.

Marshall, Long , Phillips, Austin, Coffield, Clark, Battle, Paton....all showed good signs.
Bruce and Robo back in will help.

Steele, Gresham stepped up this year.

If we get a couple of decent trades....we could go forward in 2019.
If we had the balls to can Richo and make Ratten senior coach...we could push to about 9th- 10th.

We have good young players.

We need to make COACHING changes and keep building the list

2018 OFF SEASON - MAIN CHANGES
Offload - get back jnto second round
- Hickey, Longer, Armitage, Newnes

TRADE
- DUNSTAN for SEEDSMAN

DELIST
- Gilbert, Wright, Minchington, Connelan

KEEP - 1 year Contract
- Freeman, Lonie, Marshall and Pierce
These two have class. they showed itz Lonie is getting stronger about to burst and freeman another pre season could be a gun. If we throw away these players. we will regret

THROW MONEY AT
- Gresham, Billings, Steele.
- Cerra, J.Kelly GET THEM FFS

PICK 4
Walsh or Rankine or B.Smith
very simple. take whos available in order.

DO NOT GET
- hanneberry WTF are we thinking
- lycett? WTF he is hickey actually worse

--------------

If we simply change coaches
SENIOR: Ratten
ASSISTANT: Mitchell with view to take over
ASSISTANT: Hayes, Harvey, Lade
CAPTAIN: S.Ross
VICE CAPTAIN: J.Billings
and got S.Walsh. the natural progression of good young players. Set up the Marshall/Pierce whos 204cm as forward rucks. rotate membrey/battle/mccartin/brice so if mccartin does go down we dont miss him.

Bruce? will he get back? hope so he is a competitive beast.

What GOOD coaches will do. Teach our team to spread and zone and properly and WHEN.
Theyll make gresham and Acres star mids.
Newnes, Geary will be made to earn spot
in team.

2019 - should be a year where we get close to the 8 with exciting talent that we have. We MUST intice Josh Kelly to come in 2020. He is what we need to aim for. Hes brighton local.

2019 TEAM
WEBSTER AUSTIN MCKENZIE
COFFIELD CARLISLE ROBERTON
ACRES ROSS SEEDSMAN
BILLINGS MEMBREY LONG
GRESHAM MARSHALL BATTLE

PIERCE STEVEN STEELE

WALSH, PHILLIPS, PATON, H.CLARK

------------------
WHAT WE WILL DO

PAY shitloads for a s*** ruckmen in Lycett.
WHY WHY WHY???
lose out pick 4 to Sydney for 13 and Hanneberry who is COOKED 28yo.
WHY WHY WHY

We will
keep RICHO as coach WHY WHY WHY
WE WILL THEN CONTINUE TO PLAY s*** FOOTY and lorbably lose gresham OOC.

SERIOUSLY THIS SUKS.

I tell you WHY! Lethlan needs quick results and likes richo
