Re: Cats still chasing Jack

Required player. To compare Steven to Hind is an absolute nonsense. Couldn't agree more. Jack Steven has got a minimum of 3 quality years and we are desperate for his level of skill. Hind has shown some polish when he has the ball, but that only happens 10 times a game. Steven wins his own football...

My preferred team for the rest of the season (assuming Steven is available but Webster and Hannebery continue their A. Hamill - 2 weeks trend) B: Wilkie, Brown, Coffield HB: Clark, Carlisle, Savage C: Billings, Steele, Acres HF: Parker, Bruce, Steven F: Lonie, Battle, Membrey Foll: Marshall, Gresha...

I hadn't given that any thought but I like your left field thinking. He's inspirationally competitive, so he ticks an important box.

Re: Ratten and perspective ...

I thought alot of Rat's as Carlton's coach and thought he was very stiff. Agreed, but just speaking through the “perspective” window we have to remember that Ratten and Scott shared an almost identical 50% win/loss ratio for an extended period as senior coaches. A win loss ratio can distort a coach...

I think she may have found her level, not that impressed.

Too much confusion in the box
I think she is very fortunate to be in her current role. Irrespective of gender - uninspiring.

Re: An Unfortunate Reality

Unfortunately the ballistic effort is good for about a quarter but it really is unsustainable. Clearly the players wanted to respond to the previous game but the attack needs to be more measured, and of course, be balanced by strategy.

Re: Clark and Coffield

Absolutely correct. Young players need time to build confidence and this is best achieved when they have a significant block of games. Clark delivered what Saint supporters had been hoping for. He was cool under pressure and keen to take the heat. Very encouraging. Coffield took time to calm the ner...

An Unfortunate Reality

The reality is quite stark. We have only beaten one side above 15th on the ladder. Our wins have been against 18th Gold Coast (twice), 17th Carlton, 16th Melbourne, 15th Hawthorn and 10th Essendon. Sadly I believe we hold the unenviable record of being the ONLY team outside the 8 not to have beaten ...

The same lack of respect for Stewart Loewe, the greatest contested mark the game has ever seen. Over 300 games and nearly 600 goals from CHF. Rated by Chris Mew and Glen Jakovich as their hardest opponent. Loewe is never mentioned by the footy pundits. it's like his career never happened Stewart Lo...

Re: A message to the "rest Roo" brigade

I would cut Riewoldt plenty of slack. He’s had a poor patch but anyone who has provided so much is entitled to some ordinary performances. This year he has kicked multiple goals and been ‘best on’ in some games. That’s got to put him way ahead of anyone competing for his spot. He may need a rest. He...

Re: Probably got it wrong at the selection table

The problem is not Roo at all. The problem is quite simply and plainly that we do not have enough QUALITY players. We have quite a good support cast, but we do not have enough cream. Play with even less cream, and it will just be uglier still. Look at any of the contending teams. We have less genui...

Re: Official Team vs Sydney

Definitely backing Richo on this. Bruce is well off his 2015 form so a stint in the twos is warranted. I also like the fact that our coaching team has the courage to make statements. McCartin deserves his shot. Let's give him a few weeks to stamp his mark. The coaches are teaching our forwards to g...

Re: Pick #25 - Ben Long

I think Ben Long is an excellent selection. I will concede we have a number of running backs and plenty of small forwards, so it's legitimate to ask where does he fit. Some players bring an 'X Factor' and I am confident we have just snared one. We are all familiar with the exquisite talents of his c...

Re: Jaxons come on down

You'd have to think that it'd be tough for the Hawks to get both Mitchell and O'Meara. I expect they will, but it must be a tight thing. So pushing our Pick 10 at Sydney for Mitchell would make sense. If nothing else it potentially pumps up the price the Hawks have to pay. And pay they will. But sho...

Dempster is an unsung Saint of the qualities we want in all players. He has had an outstanding career, and is fully deserving of being an automatic selection. A possible 2013 recruit

St Kilda officials were at East Fremantle Oval on Sunday when the Sharks gave West Perth a shellacking and they could not help but be impressed by the efforts of the lively Strijk. Back in the midfield where he does his best work after the Eagles had tried to convert him into a small forward, Strij...

#21 has to be reserved for the forgotten Barry Pascoe. He came over from North Melbourne with his better known brother Bob. Barry however was the star. It is certainly preferable to win matches than lose. And when we do lose each of us looks to the obvious problems in the team. Perhaps we should cast our mind back to the pre-season of 2009. I may have this wrong but my recollection was that last year's pre-season was pretty similar to this. We had ...
