Re: More Lyon bashing

He tried his guts out, and you can't put your heart and soul into something for 5 years and achieve so much and not have a soft spot for that place for the rest of your life. IMO. After his career is over, he should be welcome back to StK.F.C for his solid contribution to it's history. Hear hear!! ...

Re: Second most succesful coach!

Difference between GT and RL. GT got within a bee's dick of getting into a GF. Against the Power past their peak. IMO with a stronger list. RL got within a bee's dick of winning TWO GF's. Against quite possibly the best team ever in the cats at the height of their powers, and against the Pies in a ...

Re: Ross Lyon on The Couch this Monday

If you want to include the word great when you talk about Lyon, that's fine, but it's an opinion only. He inherited a great team. A team that had just played off in 3 finals series, 3 years running with 2 pre-lims under the belts of the core group, who were just hitting their straps.... Yep, he shou...

Re: Zac to the rescue

You have to be a lateral thinker as a coach and you've got to roll the dice to win the big one. You have to have a plan for a GF win. The finals were coming up and Lyon didn't change from the strategies and standard team selections. Most of all, you gotta get the runs on the board. Edward De Bono......

Re: Ross Lyon on The Couch this Monday

Great coaches win Premierships. Why do you include the word great when you talk about Lyon...He isn't, he wasn't and he will never be great!!!!!

Re: Zac to the rescue

I don't need to prove anything to you and you can have your opinion...it's just different to mine. As far as RLyon not doing anything wrong...well...great footy coaches are judged on premierships. Our team was ready to win one. He failed. If you want to keep defending him, go ahead. Your argument th...

Re: Zac to the rescue

Armo is ready and was ready. Ben could've been given a few extra games. Blake and Eddy should've been dropped for a few extra games as could have Dempster and Luke Miles definitely deserved more games. Maybe Milney or Schneids should have been rested more in the latter part of '09. As for Jack and h...

Re: Zac to the rescue

It's not a magic figure. It's what I thought at the time. If we were good enough to win 15 in a row...logic tells you we would probably win a few more from there. Logic also tells you you cannot get the best out of your playing group unless there is some fear involved in their motivation for wanting...

Re: Zac to the rescue

One thing I'm not is one-eyed and one other thing I'm not is stupid. Ever heard of Edward De Bono? As I've said many times before...I didn't see the logic in keeping Rooy and King and Gardiner and Dal and BJ and Gilbo and Joey and Schneids and others out there each week after we'd won 15 in a row. O...

Re: Zac to the rescue

Yep, it's that easy isn't it...maybe you should just let go now.....move on it's 2012 Ok thanks for letting me know what year we are in. What's your point...times change...Yep, I agree. Lyon should have figured it out, but he was stuck back in 2005/6 wasn't he? If he cleared his mind of his bias an...

Re: Zac to the rescue

In the end it was pleasing.....no hang on....it was bullsh1t...What's the point of winning 19 in a row!!?? Ross was handed the blueprint and he failed. The fact that the team played in pre-lims before he arrived and the fact that we had such an awesome year in 2009, tells me that it was all wasted o...

Re: Ross Lyon on The Couch this Monday

Oh do you explain Robert Eddy getting 33 games - including Grand Finals - but being delisted a few weeks later? Makes no sense - unless Lyon seen as a Lyon mistake of judgement. Rather large mistake in judgement. And there are plenty more to list. As I have said all along - Lyon = very good coach -...

Re: Ross Lyon on The Couch this Monday

boring, negative ALMOST succesful. And like other ALMOST successful coaches, he will be judged when his time is up. I reckon they'll be saying things like; too conservative in his footy philosophy and basically too defensive to the detriment of the Saints chances in 2009 and 2010. Maybe he didn't h...

Re: Big Rhys

We are lucky to have a guy like Stanley on the list and we need to give Rhys every opportunity to be one of the hardest guys for opposition sides to match up on... Rhys could develop into a full forward if that's where the coaching staff reckon is his best position and then Kosi can share ruck dutie...

Re: Freo

Is your enthusiasm for Ross prejudiced. Why do you always jump to his defense? Terry Wallace got a second chance and failed. Rodney Eade got a second chance and failed. Gary Ayres got a second chance and failed...all of them failed to win a flag and all of them will go into the history book as good ...

Re: Zac to the rescue

There are some Ross Lyon devotees on this forum like Clarky that respond to all posts that criticise him and always jump to his defense...and there are others that call a spade a spade and see his failings regarding team selection and blooding the youth... fair dinkum clarky... I wouldn't be surpris...

When your team has kicked 2 or 3 goals up 'til half time (like we did with our last match under Lyon and many other matches throughout his tenure) then perhaps that summarises the philosophy of the head coach and the stats are bound to reflect the game plan to a large extent. My read on the stats fr...

Scott Watters is the boss Essentially, that is what Scott was saying without actually saying it. I think it's great that he is open minded about making a decision in 5 or 6 weeks time. Apart from the fact that he will consult with the board and with the senior playing group, I think Scott Watters i...

Recruitment has been for young players - exceptionally quick and highly skilled. Also good kids with strong character. . Interesting that actually a good chunk are not kids. Wilkes, and Milera are mid twenties....and Saad 22. Markworth is a year older than the kids. Two more rookies who are 21 and ...
