Draft Observations
That's draft observations with an "r". From what I have read and seen I am very optimistic and confident about tomorrow's draft. I note with interest that the AFL's national talent manager, Kevin Sheehan who is said to be a bit of a guru when it comes to spotting up and coming talent, has ...

Re: Emma Quayles Draft Guide
Pies have 3 picks before our first, and they are nearly all together. If he's still around, surely they will use one of these picks on him if they have any interest in him. If there's only two clubs interested then he hasn't got much market value, so they may as well leave him for later. Personally...

Re: Go West
... If Watters wants to stack the team with Middle Eastern fundamentalists who can play footy or who are good coaches then so be it. Totally agree Magnif. And in yet another Saintsational first, I can now announce big, big breaking news ... and the news is very, very good. Our new proacti...

Well said.magnifisaint wrote:Why should anyone care about how many WA ppl are at St.Kilda. As long as they do their job and help us up the ladder that's all I care. If Watters wants to stack the team with Middle Eastern fundamentalists who can play footy or who are good coaches then so be it.

Go West
Is the West the best? Now that is going to be an interesting question yet to be answered as we power into season 2013. There is both a perceived and real St Kilda recruiting bias towards Sandgropers. The obvious reason for that is because the coach is one himself. But so far we have recruited Beau W...

Re: My AFL Draft Guide
Hi again. Just one other question. The Saints are said to be also chasing Mason Wood from the Geelong Falcons but he doesn't get a mention on your list. Is there a reason?

Re: My AFL Draft Guide
Excellent job James. Well done. Just a quick question. I notice you have the Saints chasing Tanner Smith but you also seem to rate Tom Clurey who incidentally is a mad St Kilda supporter. I looked at his Youtube highlights and he seems the goods in every way though slightly shorter than Smith. Are t...

Re: Trent Dennis - Lane
Give the guy a break. The ink is barely dry on the contract and you are already dismissing him as a no talent. Watters coached this guy, knows him and obviously rates him. He also knows how to get the best out of him clearly because TDL was a star when he played for Watters in the WAFL. The Swans di...

Re: The Pelican
How good is the Pelican.... we went into the free agency/trade period without a Key Defender and we exited it without a Key Defender....   You are absolutely spot on. Sadly. He has a fearsome reputation as someone who can get a difficult deal across the line but he failed mise...

Re: Trent Dennis - Lane
We are loving those Sandgropers. TDL was coached by Watters at Subiaco as a 17 year old. He certainly knows how to kick a goal. He bagged 70 in his first year of WAFL in 2009 before he was drafted. Watters clearly knows him and rates him.

I don't know about you but I am totally intrigued with this off season trade palaver. On the surface it is about as interesting as mowing the lawn but what I find really fascinating is the insight it provides into how the club movers and shakers are thinking and dealing. Take the Hickey Trade. Who w...

Re: Welcome to the St Kilda FC Tom Hickey
This decision is very worrying. What the St Kilda brains trust has decided is that Hickey in terms of value to the team can be equated with Brendan Goddard because that is the compensatory pick we've used to get him. I share the views of many others and hope he turns out to be the superstar that Wat...

13 For Hickey
According to News Limited, the Saints are preparing to part with pick 13 to snare Tom Hickey from the Suns. Assuming that it is true and I would say that it probably is.....the obvious question must be asked have we paid over the odds to get him.?I personally don't believe he is worth a first round ...

From the thread yesterday - http://www.saintsational.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=78409 To this one today.. Poster has slightly changed their tune.. A lot can change in 24 hours.. Lucky trade period isn't over yet.. Yep. You are right. Patience is not one of my strong points unlike your good self.

Hang on. Everyone including his manager has been saying he can't go anywhere because he is contracted. I'm saying it is still happening. If you think I am stating the obvious so be it.

This trade period gets you thinking...not always in a good way.Patience has never been a strong point for me. But i am beginning to seriously think we are in (still) with a very good chance of getting Mitch Brown. Clearly the St Kilda brains trust are chasing him hard and for good reasons. We desper...

Missed The Boat
Am I missing something here? The deadline for the end of the free trade period is in a matter of hours and we've secured precisely nobody. We picked up a possible but utterly unproven forward gun in Tom Lee but we paid a hefty price to get him. Giving away a number 12 first round pick was a big call...

By my guess the Saints are currently chasing : Hickey and Brown. We are also interested in Jacobs and vaguely linked to Stefan Martin presumably in a straight swap for Farren Ray and of course Koby Stevens but I don't know if he is definitely on our radar. We need rebounding defenders and a class ru...

Just trying to get my head around where we stand at this point in the draft. We missed out on Caddy but at best that was a long shot especially when the Cats had a first round ace in the hole to play as compo for Ablett going to the Suns. I think we will get Hickey and Brown. So that's a ruckman and...

A Good Horse Trade
Here's my take on the Tom Lee deal. We give up first round pick 12 but get a really promising forward who can take a contested mark and maybe has the potential for greatness plus picks 24 and 43. i reckon we will use and probably only need pick 24 to get Hickey so that's two for the price of one and...

This is a really good discussion. As you say we are now the Land of the Giants. I say hooray and amen to that. If this puts the heat on Kosi then so be it. To be brutally honest that guy has promised so so much and delivered sweet FA relatively speaking. I just don't get him at all. Great athlete go...

We Are On The Move
What a difference a day makes. In the first day of the official free agency Mitch Brown says he wants to come to the Saints and we pick up 21 year old Tom Lee from Claremont. I reckon there is a lot to like about this kid. He is tall (195cm) mobile, athletic key positional player forward or back but...

The AFL draft is a puzzle at the best of times but this year it has turned into rubik's cube. It seems to me you need the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job and I don't mean Watson to have any hope of landing a talented target. You also have to hope that you can somehow align your wants and n...
