Face it: they had had enough of dour arm wrestles, time for a change and a chance for attacking players to play with flair.

Kosi, Gilbert, Gram ,Goddard, and even Raph are the 5 that come to mind who will be happy to change playing styles...Roo will also relish are faster inside 50.

I'm optimistic for 2012

Lyin sucked the life out of the players. He should be strapped to a chair for all eternity and made to watch every game where we scored no more that 12 goals and then be forced to watch every one of his interviews. The whole thing would be like Chinese water torture except you dont have to waste water on him.

The club seems to be a pretty good place to be at the moment, players didn't play deep in September in 2011 so rested bodies with big pre seasons. Our 2012 home and away fixture really is terrific. Write St.Kilda off at your own peril.

We'll see.

We all bag Lyon but he proved his game plan worked and got us to 2 GF's...with an 09 season many of us will never forget....

Under Watters we all feel "touchy feel good" right now.........but we still need to see if he can coach and how players respond to him when we are under the pump....

2012 gonna be interesting. Im just hoping a bit more freedom will result in a more attacking (still accountable) St Kilda and perhaps MOST of all is that we are finally unpredictable into fwd 50...Lyon failed here IMO for sure.

If we can get back to something like 2009 form I will be wrapped. If our defence can stand firm once more, I thought they were off the boil this season. We definitelt need to add pace to our midfield, which should be good again with Lenny back. Three marking forwards and some more pace in ouir forward line. If Ben can improve his ruckwork, and get able assistance, we should be right. Go Saints. :D

Something I missed. Roo to have a good year. His last two have not been up to his standard, so let us hope he is really fit again.

Every year we should "go for the flag."

There shouldn't be a year where we don't "go for the flag."

We are a football club. We exist to win flags. If we weren't "going for the flag," what would we be doing?

It's like a game of football.

I would have thought that no team ever steps on the park not thinking "we're going to try to win." I'd be disgusted if any St.Kilda team ever goes into a match not trying their best to win, or into any season not going for the flag. That's what it's all about. That's the point of it all.

And that's why I just don't get it when people say, "I hope/think we should bottom out." It's NEVER okay to lose. Even if you get a higher draft pick or two, losing is never okay, and you always go for the win.

There is a difference, though, between "going for the flag" and truly believing you can win the flag. Port Adelaide will be going for the flag, but I doubt they believe they can win it. At St.Kilda, however, I think there IS genuine belief that it can be done.

In my view, there are only 6 sides who genuinely believe they can win the flag next year.

They are, in order of favoritism:

Collingwood
Hawthorn
Geelong
Carlton
St.Kilda
West Coast

The premier will come from this lot.

agreed. the life was completely sucked out of the players yet we went deep into September constantly...yeh...

being free and playing in gay-abandon is just dandy compared to winning most games...

Forever hopeful, but I think the improvement in Carlton, Hawthorn, WCE (and bleedin' Cats still) are a worry.

I can't help feeling we have seen the best of our core group. The new coach, new game plan makes me excited to sit back and watch 2012 unfold.

Go Sainters

I feel better now going into season 2012 than the same time last year going into 2011. But no where near like the excitement going into season 2010.

I think that we are going for the flag. Lenny, Roo and Goddard may be once in a lifetime players. We have a great opportunity to use these players for a tilt. Although yet to be proven, I believe that our recruiting has been great in the last two years. These players should start to make an impact in 2012.

I would add Richmond to that list. They will do a WestCoast this year.

So you didnt enjoy watching the team win 19 in a row and making 2 Grand Finals. Absolute Joke that people some how think everything in the Ross Lyon era was crap. Strapped to a chair? WHY? Why because he installed a gameplan which got us to 3 grand finals?
Well we lost a very good coach that was good for the club and we will struggle next year.
Clueless
