Gresham is seen by Ratten as an onballer more so than forward
Gresham is good value at the center bounce, but probably doesn't have the tank for full time midfield. Ryder is a bit the same, perhaps they can both take the center bounce then go forward, where they are both very dangerous. I can see Ryder & Gresham rotating with Marshall and Billings.

1) Has Geary given up the co-captiancy thing? If not, he'll start.
2) Coffield will start
3) One of Byrnes or Bytel

So..

OUT: Hannebury, Webster, McKenzie
IN: B1 or B2, Coffield, Geary
Webster finished in the top ten in our B&F & he will be a definite starter IMO

Did he take a step up?
Or did we slip a step back?

Not knocking Jimmy. Love his effort but I got the impression that he isn’t on Ratten’s “ideal no. 1 list”..Rather, I got the feeling he is a trusty replacement for Paton and a much valued reserve.

But TBH, I don’t know. What does he do better now, compared to 2020?

IMO Jimmy definitely stepped up his kicking , decision making & general awareness gave our defence a much needed boost & his courage has never been disputed. Paton will need time to get match conditioned & if Jimmy continues his 2021 form I can't see him being out of the team

He reminds me of the office worker running around with a clipboard so we'll think he looks busy.

Well in that case Paton gets the chop. Jimmy in! Both are miles better than Geary, but what can you do? (unless Gears steps down as Ko-Kapitan) Warning to players: don't train with Rough.

B: Paton, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Coffield, Battle, Sinclair
C: Hill, Steele, Billings
HF: Higgins, Marshall, Gresham
F: Butler, King, Membrey

Foll: Ryder, Crouch, Jones
Int: Byrnes, Clark, Sharman, Webster

I think Battle is more suited to CHB than Highmore, who is similar to Wilkie but with suspect kicking. Sharman's performances were too good for him not to get a start. Hanners might make an appearance for his 5-6 games at the beginning or end of the season but there's no point in including him in the best 22. Geary was cooked 2 years ago. Bytel needs to add another string to his bow if he wants to break into the 22. Ross should be depth. Clark and Gresham to rotate with the inside mids.

Ross will be a starting 18 player

Most likely on the wing

McKenzie will also be in the 22

Coffield not ahead of either, he’ll have to fight for a spot

DMac is an interesting one for me, I'm not sold on him being a player in a premiership side, if he is he will probably have a bit of Robert Eddy about him. And that is meant as no disrespect to DMac because I love the way he attacks the ball and the commitment he gives in every single contest.

But therein lies the problem as I see it, he needs to bring that type of commitment because of his deficiencies in the natural talent department. It's probably why he gets injured frequently and/or injures others. Kamakazi springs to mind if I try and describe his style of play.

I'm hoping he can play a full season in 2022 and get a good run at it so hopefully he can develop into a useful cog in the machine. We need players to go up a gear like never before in the clubs recent history.

Webster is interesting... had a solid 2021 and was reliable down back, but could we swing him forward to a HFF to act as that defensive forward??

For some reason I feel he would not only be effective defensively, but would also provide dangerous offensively.

Isn't the best defensive forward a dangerous forward? If the likes of Higgins, Butler, Membrey, Sharman, Gresham, Billings, King being dangerous offensively is not enough then I don't see why a non dangerous, non goalkicking forward would improve us.

Surely it's incumbent on every forward in today's game to put pressure on their direct opponent when it's in the opposition's possession.

All these teams without Geary are hogwash IMO. He is co-captain, so put him in! I’m interested to see who you would chop out to make way. That’s the interesting bit. Come on. Be realistic!

Doubt he will be captain in 2022.

We need to get to a point where Geary, Ross, Hill, are not automatic selections based on what they HAVE done but rather what they are doing.

If he isn’t gonna be co-captain he should have been chopped and delisted! Now, his managers could pull a swiftly by playing the cards in the right order.

1) state that you expect to be captain and selected player in first 22
2) let the others be cut and delisted
3) slip past the November 29th deadline
4) now, and only now, gracefully step-down as co-captain
5) Line up at halfback for St Kilda.
6) Round five to round sixteen , Sandy.
7) When injuries are rife, and season has gone completely pear-shaped, pop up for two games
8) Round 18, GT takes over as care-taker coach, dropped again.
9) Rounds 20-22 Orange boy
10) 2023 AFL 360

Geary should NOT be on the list

Love the bloke

But if we are serious he should’ve been tapped on the shoulder

Bizarre IMO

Sorry Mrs Geary, thank you & goodbye to Jarryn. If you can not find better players then I understand why St Kilda will not improve in 2022.
