Re: King ...out of form or
Sometimes when judging a player I consider how they would go in an opposition team.
How would he go at Collingwood? Probably ok.
How about Geelong ? Replace Hawkins with king prob ok, vice versa would Hawkins improve us ?
He’s not Carey or Roo but he’s a good player I don’t think our team play helps him and his demeanour looks negative.

Walked into a 10 year rebuild
In 2 of Kings 5 seasons we have played finals.
Back Peddling or setting you straight?!
I’ll tell you what, you can accept that effort, from a player who is yet to deliver.
I’ll challenge extremely poor effort

Hawkins is a B grade forward who has had the blessing of playing his whole career being fed by an elite midfield.
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Exactly why I was gutted let Bruce go.Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 08 May 2024 2:06amGood postSAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2024 4:19pmDefinitely not....
2001Nick waltzes into Harvard - Gehrig, Everitt, Loewe, Hall...with Hamill, Hayes, Harvey, Milne in the mid and small forwards....SUPPORT. ALL DAY EVERY GAME...for years.
King crawls into Frankston TAFE and he's got who ? The world class AAA Membrey ? Good player but hardly a forward legend of the game from whom King is mentored, sheltered, guided, and led to greatness....multiple different rucks and a mid field thats B grade at very very best...prob more like C+.
This is what Ive said for years....we draft a hopeful KPP but have no star quality seniors to guide and mentor the pups then we sh1t all over them for fumbling their way through a munted career.
Can a player do it on his own with no guidance? Yes. Is it often? No its actually rare...
People can't have it both ways.
Most on this forum were happy we let go of Josh Bruce. Sure, he wasn't a star, but he would have been very handy while King was just learning the caper
You and I argued that it was a mistake to have Membrey as the only KP player left in our forward line.
Thinking about Josh Bruce and his move to the Dogs. I'm sure Bevo had in mind for him to be the guy taking the number 1 or number 2 KP Defender, while Ugle-Hagan was doing his apprenticeship

Bruce had as many bad things to teach as good.

Wouldn't mind if Ross Lyon made a statement with selection and dropped King.
Cooper Sharman played a very good game for Sandringham last week. He played in the backline but I'm sure he'd love to play as one of the KP forward targets
He should be rewarded....but he probably won't get a game while King/Membrey/Owens and Hayes are in the team and...
While the backline is stable with Battle, Howard, Wilkie, Stocker, NWM, and Webster.

That statement would be something like
"I'm a teapot"
and be best delivered in a clown suit standing on the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth.
Hawthorn fans would throw coins of appreciation and giggle at the silliness.

We have had a fixation on having a full forward….and looking at last nights game Petracca 5 goals……meanwhile we have the messiah who can’t mark or kick straight, walks around with his head looking at the ground not interested…..we could have one of our other forwards having a bash and recruit bigger mids

Melbournes biggest problem is they have no key forward.seano1 wrote: ↑Fri 10 May 2024 5:41pm We have had a fixation on having a full forward….and looking at last nights game Petracca 5 goals……meanwhile we have the messiah who can’t mark or kick straight, walks around with his head looking at the ground not interested…..we could have one of our other forwards having a bash and recruit bigger mids

Re: King ...out of form or
Kind should play at CHF he has the athleticism to be a champion CHF. He would generally only find 1 opponents there and with his skill in the air and below his knees would be a hard match up.
He would have to lead and would give him room to get a runup to the ball for a marking option.
Play Hayes at FF that would be a very dangerous forward line, add member to that and the small forwards.

Yep
And that’s as obvious as Tony Abbott’s ears
HF: Hill - King - Henry
F: Membrey - Hayes - Higgins
Owens - Midfielder/Forward

Should have won 3 premierships. It lacks an effective big key forward.seano1 wrote: ↑Sat 11 May 2024 1:28pmCURLY wrote: ↑Fri 10 May 2024 7:54pmMelbournes biggest problem is they have no key forward.seano1 wrote: ↑Fri 10 May 2024 5:41pm We have had a fixation on having a full forward….and looking at last nights game Petracca 5 goals……meanwhile we have the messiah who can’t mark or kick straight, walks around with his head looking at the ground not interested…..we could have one of our other forwards having a bash and recruit bigger mids

Would give the Warne Stand for a player like King. Would have won Thursday with King.

Re: King ...out of form or
In comparison to all of the other key forwards of the last 10 years, King’s goals are similar at a games played stand point. My issue is what he is doing when we don’t have the ball. Will not put any inferred pressure on or attempt to lay a tackle. He is miles behind every other key forward except his brother. Mind you, we have a few players currently running around who don’t apply pressure
and that's the bottom line

Re: King ...out of form or
The King hysteria by the uninformed is laughable- least of our issues
As coach said - symptomatic of other upfield garbage going on
Put King into Dogs next to Ugle Hagen , Naughton watch him star
At Saints he has to kick bags each week or he’s trade-able
We have some dumb fans.

Re: King ...out of form or
Surely Caminiti and Sharman have to come in given the size of Freos defenders? If Max can nullify Pierce it would also help.

Re: King ...out of form or
What about his stats for work with ball not in hand.
Would be interested to see his stats for tackles and pressure and defensive acts.
He's not working hard enough in that part of his game.

Re: King ...out of form or
Nick Riewoldt has come out and said Max doesn't work hard enough. Plus...he lacks forward craft.
Well done to the bozo amateurs Lethlean and Co. for releasing Josh Bruce at the end of 2019.
Who the bloody hell was Max supposed to learn from when all of a sudden in his first year in footy, he's being asked to be the number 1 key position forward?!!

Bruce said it felt surreal wearing the Bulldogs colours after six years at the Saints and agreed his move represented a sound business decision more than anything else as St Kilda weren’t willing to offer him the length of contract he was after.
