Isn't that what we've been doing? Seems to have served us well over the last 100 years.

You can't expect to trade players who have played two games in three years. They have no value. It's getting harder and harder to do trades because clubs won't give up anything decent unless they get something decent. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't there only about 7 trades done last year? This...

To be fair to Eljay, it doesn't help when you're stuck between Gardiner, Rix and the G train. They'd make Roo look small.

The teams with more than 1 key forward have less trouble with double and triple teaming due to the multiple forward options available to the team. This is key to this entire debate. We've struggled in the past when our gameplan has reduced to "kick it to Roo" or "kick it to G". ...

While we may have been annoyed this week at some media "experts" not rating Robert Harvey as high as we do, it's pretty clear that anyone who has played/coached with or against him rates him in the elite players of the last 20 years.
You don't win AFL MVP awards for nothing.

I used to laugh watching the opposition have to resort to plan B less than half way through the first quarter because plan A hadn't worked. Also remember after round 1 1998 when he was physically targetted and many so called media experts said he wouldn't find it as easy as in previous years. He pro...

From memory the Geelong player who had him hemmed in on the boundary line was Sean Simpson (a former Saint). He obviously didn't learn any tricks while they were team mates. People forget how many goals he has kicked in clutch situations. I've got tapes of the old channel 7 replays when Harvs kicked...

It's times like these you really wish Hamill was still playing. He would have taken Shaw out at the first opportunity.

If one of our players had blown nearly three times the legal limit and written off three cars we'd would have had to put up with a week of newspaper articles questioning the culture of the club. Given that this behaviour has cost them a major sponsorship in the last 12 months why don't the AFL step ...

How many grounds have the AFL stopped playing at over the last 10-20 years? And now they want to build another one. What a shame we don't have a decent sized stadium somewhere close to the geographical centre of Melbourne. Oh, hang a moment, we did have one. Now it's someone's training base. The las...

What ever happened to Tim Allen ? I used to go early and watch the the last half of the reserves (back in the days when you could do that) and this guy used to dominate. Remember him kicking a goal from inside the centre at VFL Park once. Also sat the row in front of his mother the day he kicked hi...

The only reason they get away with Rix at full forward in the VFL is that he's bigger and stronger than everyone down there. He doesn't have that advantage in the AFL. Would be more chance of playing down back but personally I think Gwilt will replace Max down there.

We wouldn't have the room in our salary cap even if we wanted to get him (and that's after Harvey and Gehrig retire).
We'd also have to give up draft picks in the last year before the new clubs get the cream of the crop.

We're going to have to take a serious look at our ruck stocks at the end of the year. We've got King, Gardiner & Rix who are specialist rucks then Kosi and Blake can pinch hit, then there's McEvoy who needs a bit of time. I think only Rix won't keep his spot next year. How many do you need on yo...

Re: Kosi's fault

Personally, I blame Kosi for losing this game. I hope he pulls his head in now as by not being there our side is one dimensional. Pretty Poor Kosi! The problem is that Kosi is two players in one. We picked a ruckman to replace him and our forward line struggled as a result. If we'd picked a key for...

Lyon has previously said that given Max's hisory they are always ultra cautious whenever he feels the slightest twinge. Hopefully it's not as serious as everyone thinks. As Bruckner said this morning, if the scans don't show any damage he's a chance for this week. Given the way he ran off the ground...

I'm not convinced about Gardiner at full forward, although I don't mind having him in the team. Who are the guys at FB & CHB for the Weagles? There's a couple on the bench I've never heard of either.

While tonight is a bid game I don't think it has that much bearing on us making the 8. Regardless of what happens tonight I think we're a big chance of winning the last 6 games. None of our 6 remaining opponents are anywhere near as imposing as the Hawks.

I thought it was clear from early last year that if you weren't a ruckman or a key position player you had to be a midfielder to get a game. We're now starting to get that sort or balance into the team. As we get more runners we're more able to run out games. The North game really impressed me. I've...

the hawk back line is not big so we need that balance right, or else they will run off us all night. I think Fiora has been picked for what he does well, that is when the heat is out of the game, in the third and fourth quarters he plays 90% of game time and his run and carry comes through. I have ...

I wish people would stop saying "let's get this player or that player" every five minutes. For sure he'd be a great player to have in our side BUT we'd have to do better than giving up our first pick (probably have to throw in Monti as well and then some). We also don't have the room under...

Last year Lyon went for a more mobile type (Gram) on Franklin. Like Riewoldt, he seems to cause most of his damage by being too quick for his opponents. It's likely we'll do something similar this week with a smaller, quicker player to take him, which would leave Max to take Roughead.
