We are not talking about fat blobs are we ? ... we are talking about fit AFL footballers. So what i say re: Judd and Hayes applies. If Hayes runs a 6 minute mile .. it could indicate he's actually as fit as Judd at 5 minutes. After all Judd at 80% pace would be the same as Hayes running flat out. J...

I think the time over 1500 metres or 3000 metres does not necessarily reveal the level of fitness. .. it's not surprising that Judd runs the best time at Carlton - he's very quick over 100 metres and therefore he would be jogging along at the 5 minute mile pace. A 5 min mile means you're running at...

Lets apply that logic in the context of the AFL. From memory Chris Judd ran Princes Park (3200m) in 10min 27sec last year and was the Blue's quickest by a fair margin. Multiply that time by 46.8% and Judd runs 1600m (1 mile) in 4mins 53 sec. Princes Park is 3200 meters, so 18m short of 2 miles. How...

The 1500m world record is 3min 26sec. The 3000m world record is 7min 20 sec. So that means an elite runner can run a 1500m 46.8% faster than a 3000m (ie. in a touch less than half the time which makes sense). Lets apply that logic in the context of the AFL. From memory Chris Judd ran Princes Park (...

this is a forum of what people have written regarding good times at the 1500m please note this is a 14 year old female and the answers people are telling her proves that anyone that is in shape should do 5 mins easily, especally AFL players http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090722083...

Oh and just saw this on AFL website to further prove the point that most AFL players would do 1.6km in 5minutes. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/88334/default.aspx "Mulkearns estimates most AFL players would negotiate the course (3.2km/2miles) in a time somewhere betwee...

We Are Fighting Fit!!!!!

Our finishes to our last 3 games have been excellent. We completely over ran North in the 4th, held off Carlton to finish strongly (they had been having great 2nd halves in the month beforehand), and our second half last night was amazing. I think our good form has a lot to do with fitness levels. W...

the hawk back line is not big so we need that balance right, or else they will run off us all night. I think Fiora has been picked for what he does well, that is when the heat is out of the game, in the third and fourth quarters he plays 90% of game time and his run and carry comes through. Exactly...

With King playing 70% in the ruck we can rotate our midfield more than if MG and King both play as one will on while the other is off. RL obviously thinks run will win the game for us and I betting he knows more than everyone on here. Roo will do what he did last week and play forward all unless we...

Sure, he's never gonna be a superstar but he does a lot of the little things that often go unnoticed really well. Love it! you never know your luck in a big city......the kid is an all australian under 18 player .....so only time will tell.....another lenny hayes is my bet...... Nice call. He has g...

Nobodys mentioned how good he is at tackling Did you see his chase against the Kangas 2 weeks ago? Can't remember who he was chasing but they got possession out of a pack at CHF for us and ran through the corridor bouncing up to the centre circle. Eddy had to clear the pack and then busted his arse...

The amount of leads he makes which get neglected is staggering. That kid just doesnt stop running. And he's always got like 5-10 metres on his opponent as well. Exactly. Is Schneider gonna give us that? Of course the answer is no as he doesn't have the tank. But what I would love to happen is for p...

Eddy - Love the way he goes about it!!!!!!!!!!!

3 senior games for 3 wins & 4 NAB games for 4 wins - am I right about that? 7 from 7. Chance or coincidence? Sure, he's never gonna be a superstar but he does a lot of the little things that often go unnoticed really well. Runs hard into space and does it intelligently. Applies pressure and chas...

yeah, I understand that; its only hypothtetical anyway. its just a system basically to work out WHAT the players are capable of. But the thirty shots from in play would be a variety of pre-determined situations, and I would probably do it at the end of a training session to bring the fatigue factor...

The following is a snapshot of the top teams plus and including those we’ve played – have included the Hawks as they are a benchmark at the moment also. Percentages of goals from scoring shots: Geelong 53% (167 scoring shots for) Hawks 55% (162) Dogs 59% (170) Swans 52% (127) Blues 58% (130) Es...

Max plays his best football deep......and Johnno is the Dogs forward that I fear most. So when Johnno is forward I would put Max on him. Give L Fisher first crack at West. I agree. Fisher has been successful with two hard tags on midfielders. Keep him in the same role. Johnson has too much pace for...

While we shouldn't expect BJ to immediately return to the form he displayed in the opening rounds of last year (was on fire and our best player IMO), I'm optimistic that he will come on a lot quicker than Lenny did last year. There are plenty of differences between BJ's & Lenny's situations. * B...

At least it's been brought to attention. Can't see Sydney or other sides using the same tactic again now even if the AFL does nothing formal about it. Anything resembling tunneling this weekend will be looked at very closely by the media. But if it does continue and other sides copy the tactic the A...

Looks like contact to the head to me! Can't believe commentators noted Mattner's bravery and suggested it wasn't even a free? Mattner had his body positioned to take the hit 5 yards out and was never making a play for the ball. It was a good hit. I'm happy with the free. But brave? Imagine if it was...

i think we took the match-ups way too seriously last season. as rogerwa says, the key is to shut down their main play-makers and dangerous forwards then make them match up on us. imo we will have more talent on the park than them and matching up should be their concern, not ours Your right, the mat...

Even with Spida out I dont think we can pen the ruck down as a win. Jolly is bloody good. I think King could take him but thats it. I hope King is fitter. I think that Jolly is somewhat overrated. He compiles a lot of hitouts throughout a season and is always in the top few rucks in this category. ...

If C Gardiner plays, who does Roos send to him? Maybe Mattner? Or even Kennelly? Shutting these two down will be important for us.

How does Charlie go defensively? Could he play a lead up role in combination with closing down a runner from Sydney's defence.
